I would second what temponaut said.
Hey Beast, the real problem with wine caps is that they all tend to be textured and ribbed
in some way not to mention that they also tend to be thin aluminum that bends and distorts easily.
I was at one time on a CAP posting board....yeah, I know...sounds weird.
Basically you posted what you wanted in a cap and companies would get a hold of you.
I clearly posted that I didn't need 10,000 units and that I didn't have a lot of money to spend
BUT that if a company could help me out with a small first quantity I would probably be a return customer, etc....
No go.
Every company that got a hold of me, mostly Chinese, feighned ignorance as to my needs.
A lot of them would try to lure me in with wanting to know exactly the type of cap I needed and
promises of giving me what I wanted.
The funny thing is, the cap is so basic
(plain satin aluminum, tin or electrocoated plastic) that when these companies started back peddling
(and they ALL did) to try to tell me how difficult and costly it would be to make and that I would have to purchase
a minimum of 10,000 units, I would simply refer them back to my add...and usually never hear back from them again. |

I meant to mention that I also ordered one of those gold sample caps that Loyal posted about (it was free so what the HELL).
The guy sent it in an envelope that wasn't even marked "Fragile" so ofcourse it arrived crushed.
After unbending it and fitting it on a bottle I determined it's a bit too large as Loyal said and a bit too long, though I figured it would be easy enough to snick off at the right length...
I got back wiith the fellow and asked to order 100 of them to which he replied (come on, you know the answer here)...
"We don't deal in that small a quantity...would you like to order 5000 units?"
I told him my sample had arrived crushed and asked if he could replace it...his response? "If you would like to order 5000 units I'll throw in an extra one for free."
Anyway...FYI. |

Hmph.
That guy's response makes me think we should encourage 100 propsummit members to request 100 free caps through the site. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!"

That's odd, the one they shipped me came in an oversized padded envelope marked fragile. Kind of ridiculous really for the size of the cap it contained. _________________

Sounds like he may have already started to smell something fishy with a bunch of requests for a free sample of the same cap.

just went into boots the chemist and found this:
fenjal classic, think its some sort of female deodorant. apart from the small dimple at the top it looks pretty much spot on. It's 39mm in diameter so not sure how it fits to the bottle. will will try it out tonight.
though maybe someone can confirm the diameter of the bottle lip in the meantime |

Quick and dirty measurement: I make the diameter of the mouth of the OB Bottle to be 30mm. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!"

nice one temponaut! The cap looks to be slightly bigger on the prop so this one could well be a perfect result! all it needs now is a cork inserted and voila!
*EDIT* The actual diameter is 32 mm sorry, the height is 39mm so looks like it could be a tight fit.

Right you are! The cap on the bottle in the screenshots DOES look a bit oversized. And the dimple you spotted is quite a find! Good eyes!
Looking forward to seeing how the "fenjal classic" cap looks on your OB Bottle. Fingers crossed...
I do hope you'll find something to do with the body spray, too. Hate to waste a perfectly good supply of, uh, fenjal. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

It was that dimple in the movie cap that made me think it was from the spray cologne in the first place. It was also on my mousse cap, but its corners had more of a radius. That one looks about spot on, and the size matches what I was looking for. Nice find, let us know how it works out. I was hoping a new product would match instead of having find vintage musk

here's the verdict guys...it's a pretty snug fit! possibly looser than I thought.
a couple of things I might do is to maybe trim a bit off the bottom as the one on the prop looks shorter and maybe stick a cork in there so it fits a bit tighter.
here's a size comparison with the reindeer top
so get down to your nearest chemist! grab yourself a bargain and free gift for the missus! |

I've never seen that stuff for sale in the U.S.
What size is the bottle, BTW (i.e., how many ounces or mL or whatever)? _________________

That looks great, BeastMaster! With a bit of trimming, it could be a dead a ringer for the cap we seen onscreen, right down to the dimple.
As clever an idea as it was to use the "2019" sticker on the Finlandia cap, the Fenjal Classic cap may turn out to be the best, most economical resource for the cap that OB actually envisioned. I actually like that it looks a bit big, just like the one in the movie. If it's possible to fit it with a cork, so that it actually seals the bottle, that would be perfect!
I wonder how can we get our hands on this item outside of the UK. I've never seen it anywhere, and never even heard of it until you introduced it to this thread. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

Chemist would be Pharmacist or Drug Store in the States I believe? I am going to be hitting a few tomorrow. Also a beauty supply shop that is near by.
I was thinking about the cork too, and was thinking about gluing it in there(the cap), but I have a feeling repeated use would break it off. Maybe using a rubber cork or epoxying a screw inside the cap before putting the cork in there. I need to ponder this more.
