Hi all, new member, though I've stalked the BR side of the site for about a yr or so. Saw some of Phasepistol's research over on the RPF site then hit on this thread here. Have to say that the in-depth research here is awe-inspiring. I've an old army jacket sitting in the garage which has been crying out for a 'make-over' for ages now - no longer allowed in the house as my wife considers it too tatty! But I'd like to think it's 'lived in'!

Anyway, it was destined at some point to be a BSG project, but having seen Superjedi's 'in-universe' project I'm kinda inspired to do a Nostromo jacket. Thinking along the lines of a previous crew member. Figure the tug must've had a fair history behind it before the fateful final return voyage? Just need to look into getting patches and the 'iron-on' for the back.

Thanks to all for such an enlightening thread.

FANTASTIC!
I've yet to order these (as well as the jacket lettering from Mike)...are the details on the for sale thread still current?

Cool

Montana, those patches are fantastic, looking exactly like the ones on Stephen210's photo's of the actual Kane jacket.

Having looked at the brilliant reference pics that Steve took can anyone confirm if the bottom edge of the Nostromo patches are left un-sown / not stitched? It appears to me that the pressure suit webbing runs up underneath and that the patches just overlay this - being stitched along the upper curved edge Confused

Apologies if this has been answered, I've trawled this thread (plus the one on RPF) but don't think I've missed it.

The bottom of the patches are not sewn. Kane's screen used jacket was like that when I saw it at Bob's.

What's a good way to age an embroidered patch?

I recently acquired a jacket that's got a ton of patches, and I'd like to add a bit of worn look to them since the jacket itself already has a vintage treatment to the leather.

What Stephen said...also, coffee or tea worked well for me also (try first on a similar piece of fabric, and also to experiment with different concentration of coffee or tea), that`s for the colour, if you want to deepened the look, you`ll have to use sandpaper for the frayed look.

I'll have to give it a shot, don't know if i want to fray the patches tho, might just settle for a little darkening of the color.
