Ok, THIS is the finished hat...........I know its not the right patch Fred, but the new ones arent accurate enough for me and this came with the original hat anyway, very happy, got my old hat back

Well done, Tim !!!
(but I still don't understand why the Thinking Cap co originaly released a captain cap with a crew insigna on it ???)
BTW, the fact that Brett wears an officer cap could mean that he is a former officer... I say that because I think his bio mentions that he had alcohol problems, IIRC. He could have loose his officer status on the Nostromo and keep the cap ? (All the characters bios are available in sub-menus of the various A L I E N DVDs but I really don't have time to check this for now) _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST |

Hey Tim !
Do you think it's the same kind of cap worn by O'Neil in Outland ?...i thought it was a slighly different model like a baseball cap ?
There are two different kind of NOSTROMO patches, a dark blue and a light blue one...i thought it was the 2nd on Brett's ?
They are available at Intergalactic trading co on Ebay... _________________ I know what you're thinking...did he fire six shots or only five ?

Hey Phil,
Fred actually pointed out to me that Bretts patch was a different colour
not long ago, i had never noticed it before, was amazed.
I will check to see if the cap is the same as O`Neils, I have been searching for the one worn by Peter Boyle. It is a different one altogether,
the style of cap from the eighties that is kind of puffy or padded and looks like it is made from one piece. Had a few back in the day, hard to find now.
I dont think i will get the correct Brett patch, the new ones are very well made but just arent screen accurate enough for me. The patch i have came off the original "Thinking Cap" i got back in the day. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

Its the same cap and braiding Phil, the cap colour is not navy though,
a lighter shade of blue, looks like i have to rethink the Boyle cap.
Will look great Phil, i will have to do one as well.
The company that sells the navy caps also does a lighter blue version.

Hey Tim !...thanks for the movie cap, it reminds me how crappy the dvd version of the film is ? ...i wish they would release a new version, or perhabs on blue ray !
I saw it again a couple of weeks ago, actually there are a lot of caps all over the movie, blue, red, yellow and white ones, as shepard's cap...
The cap company who sell the blue O'Neil navy cap, is it on Ebay ? _________________ I know what you're thinking...did he fire six shots or only five ?

Phil, the link to the cap is the same one that i posted above, just go to their store link and you will find the lighter blue cap. The links for the caps and braiding work for the Alien and Outland caps. _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

Here's my authentic Outland cap created by The Thinking Cap Company. I purchased when they originally came out. I used to have the Nostromo crew cap and the yellow CONAM cap as well. However, the later two went the way of time. Luckily, I still have my Outland. Has some wear on it, but still looks fantastic. I took these photos this morning. Enjoy.

Another thing to mention is that the Nostromo caps were a slightly deeper and brighter blue. The scrambled eggs were also more yellow/gold like the color used in the patch, if my memory serves. |

Great stuff spinner44, the old press stud size adjusters are very hard to find and yes your memory does serve you well. i had the Nostromo cap and your description was spot on. May i call upon that memory again? Do you recall the mail order Nostromo jacket from the same era? OH and was the yellow Con Am cap a kind of padded cap? _________________ Formerly offworld66 |

I somewhat remember the jacket, but not any detail. The ConAm cap was made of a tight poly/nylon like weave. It wasn't like the foam trucker hats. I remember it having a wee bit longer bill than the Outland model. |

Some of my fonder memories are a bit skewed when seeing some of those older films today. Kind of when I liked Buckaroo Banzai when I was in high school. I went out and bought the DVD last year and bleech. Guess it was more interesting when I was much younger. |

I agree with John... not to mention that OUTLAND's design work always looked like a rip-off of A L I E N to me... (but I still like the design of the shuttle, it's soooo ugly that it's "cute"... thanks to Martin Bowen, one of the NOSTROMO model builders !!!)

Thanks for the photos spinner, really nice cap !
Outland is still a good movie imho, one of the best sci-fi film of the 80's, a good storyline and great actors ! _________________ I know what you're thinking...did he fire six shots or only five ?

Sorry Phil but it's just an adaptation of HIGH NOON (LE TRAIN SIFFLERA 3 FOIS in french) in space, nothing more (and nothing less) !
But let's go back to the NOSTROMO CAP... I found this in my files, it came from Phil Rae's A L I E N collection... It's weird because the cap looks like a genuine THINKING CAP CO but the Nostromo patch looks like one of these cheap chinese reproduction currently available on eBay (the yellow horizontal bar is too high and the letters not fuzzy and bold enough compared to the original, late 70's ones)
