Did you say you scrath built yours?????

I was hoping to avoid it but I'm not paying that for an old calculator. I'll just bulid one.

With everything else I've built it won't be a problem I was just hoping to avoid it.

On the phone:

I have had great luck with sintra so I'm glad to hear it's what you used on the phone base.

Yes, for the scratch-built MQ-11 I simply used alu-tape and gave it a light sanding to have that brushed aluminum look...and since the buttons are of the same look and flush with the surface, I cut out a pattern in a piece of plastic...a hole basically, and traced each button with a mechanical pencil. After applying the numbers/letters on them, I used a mix of charcoal to dabb each button to make them look darker (if you look at the pics Andy posted, you'll see what I'm talking about).
Good luck

Potentially new thread worthy...

Sorry if this has been mentioned but I was thinking of making the public phone Deckard uses to talk to Rachel inside the snake pit using a skype/computer set up it could be actually functional!

With a little brainstorming we could possibly make this work.

If you want it to be the correct size you need a computer screen that is less than 8 " wide. the Phone booth is 8 " X 30.6" according to Whitefall. I ordered an old Panasonic with a 6" screen that I'm going to use for the screen with Whitefall's phone booth face plate. My booth may end up a little smaller than the one on screen to make my 6" TV look right in the booth.

If you could figure out a way to hook up the computer to the old TV and just blend in the camera.

My Acer is 10" wide. You could build a booth around one and it will just be a little bigger. It has the camera bulit in and if you can seperate the keyboard from the screen, which you would need to do, you could build the keyboard into the booth fold down style.

If you were to get a fold over laptop that turns into a tablet you could just build a booth with a slot on the side and just slide the laptop into place. No cords or anything to mess with.

Ooooohhhh I'm getting excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW I got two Pop up Panasonics just like Deckard has in his Apt for $5 and $20 plus about $20 ea. for shipping. My 6" Panasonic for the phonebooth was $9.
That's what is nice about BR, unlike Star wars, with BR you can still get the actual stuff cheap. I found the shotglasses and dispenser cheap. Including the blue shotglass.

They are not rare. It took me about a week to find cheap on Ebay Very Happy

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Connect-your-computer-to-a-TV If your TV has these ports you should be fine!

and it's extremely easy with a HD tv and the right cable!

OK guys...

I've been working hard on this for a couple of months now, not that easy to figure out how old Deck's personal VidPhon was made when all you have as reference is blurry photos and screencaps...

So I made my homework and I think it paid off because the thing is finally starting to look a little like the real thing...

It's still a WIP but, well... time to unveil the beast...

More soon...

Fred

Thanks a lot, Lee !

JB gave me the info on the hair dryer via PM when I launched this project... It looks like it could have been incorporated that way in the screenused prop... and it makes sense when you seriously think about it for 2 minutes, must admit ! (Why get rid of the handle when you can use it to fix the video camera / hair dryer to the main body of the VidPhon ?)

Great progress Fred, these are really cool props and how theyve evolved here is also pretty cool. I got the correct shape hairdryer and nose cone
for it but the overall size is much smaller than id like, yours is nice.

Looking good so far. I'm wondering about the slide viewer...panaview or some other brand?

Thanks mates for the always appreciated comments !

Cool

Tim,
Even if this hair dryer is rather close to the real thing, I'll have to heavily transform it to make it look right... I think I'll have to scratch-build the front cover... the rear cover will also be scratch-built, but it'll be easier since I plan to use one of the Contempra phone inner parts in this area...

JB,
Yes, the slide viewer is a Panaview, but I also altered the shape of this one... I first removed the rear cover and then sticked the main body (on its left side) to the phone.

Thank you Tom !

JB, I believe the bathroom VidPhon is the one seen aside Leon in the opening scene, but with the hair dryer and top of Panaview greeblies removed. (the calculator on both phones isn't a CASIO MQ-11)

Regarding the greeblies... I decided to only use spare parts from the Contempra phone and Panaview slide viewer to detail my VidPhon... and it'll work pretty well I think !!!

Cool

As I told in a former post : More soon, so stay tuned !

Totaly agree... but what I say is I believe they re-used this phone later during the shooting as a wall phone, and to do so they had to remove the hair dryer at a certain point, know what I mean ?
