I've found the phone. The calc is a toughie. However, I've found several slide viewers, but I can't tell which one is the correct one. Can some one post a picture, "pre-mod"? Did it have a base, or a side attachment? Also, for those with a full calculator, what are the odds of getting casting?

I am not 100% sure of the accurate slide viewer, or if it is even a slide viewer for sure. The Panaview 2 1950's style is the closest thing I have found.

I choosed the Kaiser slide viewer because it was basically a rectangle box with straight sides. The only thing I'm concerned about the Panaview is that the design is a trapeze. So the side are getting narrower toward the rear of the screen, making the overall look of the Vid-Phone (and looking at the screen/pics captures of Leon's interview) different than in the movie. As for a mold of an original MQ-11 it would be difficult, but not impossible. |

I saw a tutorial on the RPF showing how to do a step by step motion tracker used in Aliens. The slide viewer was made by Hama...looks like it could be used for the Vid-Phone also...or a another type of Vid-Phone |

You could always say that having 1 phone is pointless, no one to ring |

What kind of and thickness of plastic did you use to expand the base of your vid phone??
joberg wrote: | Well, well, well, to answer that question, here's my new project...again, not accurate, but close enough; now if I can convince my GF to part with the tube of her hairdryer (should not be long now ) I'll have a complete Vid-Phone. Still work to do...

I used a 0.2mm thick plastic; it's easy then to sand the edge to a nice round form. |

What kind of plastic?
ABS seems hard to work with. Is it PVC?? joberg wrote: | I used a 0.2mm thick plastic; it's easy then to sand the edge to a nice round form. |

Sorry Jameth, I usually use Syntra or Plasti-Card or Evergreen, these are the trade-marks. Your hobby store will help you with your selection.
I use contact cement with all my work, also a good glue gun is a must.
Good find on the Kaiser . Don't forget, if you use a Kaiser, you'll have to find/scratch-build the calculator. |
