will steer clear of it, cheers andy I got some cellulose thinners which I think contains acetone, might try that.
um.... you guys are probably gonna think I've gone bat sh*t crazy (and you'd be right) but I've just filled in my engravings!! so my receiver has its smooth surface again.
I decided I wasn't happy with them even though it was a nightmare to get them on there, they just weren't as clean as the real thing. so I'll probably just use a transfere or see how chews method turns out. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

This is such a great idea it should have a separate thread. Would love for this to happen. |

yep, all gone I'm afarid
the transfere does sound kinda crappy, but I have a good idea how to make it work.
I did the blueing today. everything still comes out a little patchy, but kinda helps it look more worn and aged. half the time I didnt even bother cleaning the parts and they still look pretty good. one thing is that the brass brush didnt work, but a touch of silver polish goes a long way _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. The Offworld MFG receiver is undersized by about 10%, at leas the original one was. Still a great piece, though. |

ok I did it. if you send me your email I'll send you this A.I. file and you upload to https://www3887.ssldomain.com/owossographic/index.cfm they will make you a letterpress die!!!
I think I would just attach the die to a pair of long handled pliers and squeeze real hard...
P.S. it looks a lot better in vector format!!! _________________ I just do eyes.

I saw on andys measurments it was about 1/4 of an inch shorter length-wise than sids. if the overall size isn't too much of a compatability problem I may be able to modify it to fit. would be great if someone had a sid / offworld side by side comparison photo
nice work chew! have you still got my email address to send the file?
looking forward to seeing how this turns out! keep us updated _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

blimey! you know what? I just realised why am I begging coyle for a whole ammo box just to get that little serial plate when the answer is staring us in the face all along!
chew: I got a scaled template I can send you if you can make an .ai vector file from it. if we all chip in we can get 20 or so on a sheet!
also have you thought about getting the little bulldog serial made into a die? _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

wowsers! thats a heck of alot smaller! I thought these things were all pretty much the same but there are some huge differences there, particularly the back end. thanks for posting the pics hirowa I guess this is expected as the offworld wasnt cast from a real steyre like the sidkit.
dam shame, those markings looked great! _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

cheers Gaff. I've faced the reality that I will never get to own a tomenosuke, but I aim to get as close as I can
offworld refunded me on the receiver. dam shame about it all as those markings looked superb!
hopefully chew will save the day with the die stamp method _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

I'm happy with the early Coyle blaster i got a few months back.
Thought i'd be searching forever to get one, lol.
We need people in the UK to be making all metal ones, that would kick ass! |

The Offworlds Steyr reciever is the same size as a Coyle which was cast from a real Steyr, and also the same size as I can tell. the Sidkit however used some sort of molding process to make it larger. All the parts on the Sidkit are larger in size that even their real counterparts. When I get home I will try to show a comparison to help.

That would be great andy so in your opinion would the receiver fit the sidkit without looking too out of place? and could the sidkit receiver end fit to the offworld?
I got a coyle front end cap and it fits pretty much perfect to the sidkit receiver. _________________ "F*ck it, it's just a movie. Let him worry about it" Harrison Ford |

The Offworld receiver, even the new one is still not accurate. It seems to be based on the Hartford and has a slightly different shape. The ejection port is also very different. I can't say for sure what the new receiver will look like, but it looks like they just changed the markings.
The funny thing to me is that the markings, though accurate to the hero gun, they are also the thing that gives it away as an assemblage of found parts. Similar to leaving the Graphlex logo on a lightsaber.

The real Steyr reciever is still larger in Diameter. Pics below from both a real buildup and a uncut SL rifle.
Sorry for the crap pics it is dark and late and I am pissed I didn't have enough money to buy the Hero Blaster yesterday. |

Yes, I did forget to mention that the offworld, though close to the same length is certainly thinner. It was built on a smaller interior gun, a 38 sp Charter arms bulldog, and was moved up on that gun to keep the overall dimensions correct. It needed to have a smaller diameter to allow it to fit.
