So, while I was watching and re-watching the TV store scene, I noticed these things on top of the TV's visible here:

After a lot of fruitless and frustrating Google image searching, I think I've ID'ed them as a bunch of these things:

They're plastic TV lamps / souvenirs / dioramas / night lights / whatevers made in post-war Japan, 1950's to 1970's I think. The ones on screen seem to be orange plastic, and American football-shaped, but they come in other shapes and colors, too. Some are also made of glass.

Watching and re-watching the scene, I think they have clear fronts and identical innards, though what the internals are I can only guess (color photocopied Japanese magazine ads?). Maybe some of that prismatic 'hologram' tape on the sides, though I can't be sure.

And you thought the Kirin bottle was obscure. Here's your deep cut of the day.

Great find Mike! Very impressed.

I went back and had a look at my HD copy and you can clearly see the one of the dogs in this capture.

Thanks, guys.

I think I'm seeing a bonsai-style tree on the left side of the movie ones – look at the one of the far left of my screencap...

I've seen other boxes like these that contain a miniature geisha doll, or a miniature scene / diorama with a tiny fake tree, pagoda, etc., so I have no way to determine what's really in them – might be anything : /

I'd love to see someone mock up one of these with some bonkers scene in it – tiny fake Hades landscape and the Tyrell pyramids, tiny LA city hall, etc... Bonus points for garishness ; )
