looking over the Monsters in Motion Spinner. Nice size at 18 in.

Anybody done/own one? Thinking seriously of picking one up.

I hit their site about once a month and had not noticed it until a couple months back. Since nothing has really been said, I just figured I'd passed over it as most their BR model tuff holds no interest to me.

Paul F. Had a big Spinner model at one time or at least the body pull of one...wonder if this is related?

I am just hoping someone might chime in who knows anything about this model. I will ask around, hopefully I will get lucky!

I believe the one you guys are talking about it the Anubis kit. It is roto molded so it is actually hollow to allow for electronics and such. It has been around for almost 7 years and hasn't changed price at MIM since it first showed up. I can email pics of the unfinished kit if intersted or post in the pic section here.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get one. I've found if I wait around and it has a cool history ,it will be gone when I go to order one. if I get one now it'll be a POS and become auction fodder for eBay.

Andy,

Would love to see the pics you have, please post them up

Rick,

Please post pics when you get it! I am very curious to the condition of the cast and want to know if a lot of prep work is required before painting.

Good luck!!

Tom

Well found out a bit more regarding origin.

Evidently this is a recast at least in part of a kit referred to as Anubis. Evidently a bitch to build due to roto-cast work being hit and miss. Overly thick and fragile thinwalls resulted in making it tough to cut or sand for fear of damaging the model.

Hopefully the MIM has adressed some of this.

Turns out the model Morpheus13 shows on his site was based on an Anubis kit with a great deal of hard work and talent to render this:

Don't know the builder other than his first name is "dave"

I can't remember where I got this picture, so i hope I don't piss anybody off for using it. If I do i will remove it immediately...

...I have heard similar reviews of the kit and i believe if you search for it at the RPM under anubis spinner you will find some more info on it.

Rick,

I was just checking to see if you ordered it and to find out when it might arrive? I am really excited to see this kit.

I have an unfinished Anubis kit that Paul Francis gave me back in '97 or '98. This MinM Spinner looks a lot like the one I have, but much nicer.

Then probably the same and cleaned up. I think Paul F. has dealt with MIM in the past on some items. It's one nice sized model.

I bought this kit years ago from MIM. If I remember correctly, they bought the molds from ANIBUS. At the time, MIM was selling a solid kit. The good part is I didn't have to worry about wall thickness. The bad part is, no room for electronics.

My feelings about the kit: MIM did not provide any decals. Instead, the kit came (And I believe it still does) with some horrible (They look hand drawn and carved) lines to guide the builder with the extensive markings for the vehicle. I spent a great deal of time filling the holes and sanding everything smooth. Phil S. sells a wonderful set of decals that really make the model look great.

The fit of the windshield is horrible. I just left it sitting on top of the model.

The lights for the top of the car are not too good. I ended up painting them silver and then using TAMAYIA clear colors (BLUE, YELLOW and RED) and made a custom rack out of brass strips and rods.

The kit took a great deal of time and effort. But in the end, it's a big model and looks pretty nice with my other BR props. So if you have the time and above average modelling skills, I say give it a shot.

Yeah, i have one of those and i think its from Paul Frances as well. It is a nice size but there is quite a lot wrong with it and being hollow you get very thin spots and very thick ones. I have so far detailed the underneath and the vents by the front pods. and have removed the moulded on light mount on the side.

I agree about the canopy it is awfull, but i have purchased a set of Phill's decals.

cheers

I got one of these kits some years ago and never got around to making it , until about 4 weeks ago , first pass of the Dremmel and it exploded into a 1000 pieces , at best a a jigsaw puzzle , at worst a throw away - nothing could be salvaged except the canopy and that's a poor vac formed effort , so I set about designing a building myself a 1:12 scale Spinner , a compromise between the filming model and the production car , but with as many working effects as I could fit in the smaller scale . I'm making good progress with all the body work panels , chassis etc even sculpting a complete Deckard and Gaff , pictures coming when I've finished , I've designed an built a prototype working light rig ( view on You Tube - search for Spinner Lighting Rig) , and have just added a electroluminescent wiring rig to simlulate the Neon tubes . I expect to finish this some time around the end of October early November - photos coming shortly
