Just wanted to share some pictures of my 2006 Sidkit. I've made a few minor modifications and upgrades here and there. I still want to do a few things like replace/add more screws and I have a vintage binding post on it's way to me Smile

I have one question to others who built one of these. The cylinder release seems to interfere with the hammer preventing the trigger from clicking back into place. Has anyone else had this problem?

Changes so far:

- Filled screw hole in mag cover plate
- Mag cover plate now attached with magnets
- Added missing 5th LED (5mm)
- Added (non functional) green LEDs (3mm) to 'targeting device'
- Cut new hole for switch in side of mag plate
- Painted switch white
- Added ON/OFF cover plate to switch
- Added hanging wires (2 x twin wires)
- Replaced cylinder release screw with slotted domed head
- Replaced some of screws under the grips with slotted countersunks
- Replaced cast metal rounds with real inert Magnum .44s
- Replaced trigger pins with pieces of brass rod
- Drilled out cast metal Weaver knob and replaced it with a real one

More changes to come including addition of real vintage binding post, slotted grub screws, copper washer with blob of solder, missing holes, allen head grub screws, LED holders...

Very nice work, have had many hassles with my trigger and tried many things to correct it, have now settled for a half trigger action, I just think of it as a hair trigger blaster Very Happy

Can't help you with the trigger question, but man. . . that weathering job is gorgeous!
Very nice work.

looking good! what did you use for the trigger pins? OB might be able to supply you with a more accurate buttplate if you want one.

The trigger pins are pieces cut from an L shaped brass hook that I had lying around.

I received the LED holders. The 3mm ones are perfect but the 5mm ones are too small. Also received the oringinal binding post and various slotted and allen head grub set screws.

Busy weekend coming up! Smile

Thanks! Hopefully I can have something to show soon. I'm expecting the black resin ammo housing and cover plate from Michele but also had a little mishap and unsure how to fix it Confused

I did get the LED holders installed in my metal cover plate and they look great!

IIRC, the Charter Arms Bulldog was a .44 Special and not a .44 Magnum. Minor nitpick from a gun nut.

Your gun, however, makes that so insignificant...it is a real beauty. You took a decent replica and customized it into a true showpiece.

The bulldog came in a .44 and .38 special, and a .357 magnum (similar to the .38sp enough that it may have been remarketed). So there is no such thing as a .44 magnum Bulldog, but it is easy to confuse the .44 and the .357 if you arent a gun nut like Eltee Wink

Not finished but here are some of the new upgrades/mods.

Real binding post, drilled the missing holes in the ammo box and replaced the cap head screw with a grub screw.

Drilled out the button head screw in the side cover and replaced it with a real one, replaced cross head screws in the grip frame with slotted screws. Inner grip frame has been painted black which makes the grips look darker.

Added slotted grub screws (3mm on left, 2.5mm on right) and a washer cut from copper tubing.

Drilled out the built in LED holders and added real ones.

Drilled out the button head screw in the back and replaced it with a real one.

Drilled the missing hole in the Bulldog frame above the rear trigger. More slotted screws in the grip frame.

The LED holders really add that Worldcon flavor!

Although the 5mm LED holder is too small Sad

NICE work, bro!

I hope I'll be able to get close to that quality when I get time to build mine.

This is a beautiful piece mate. Your attention to detail is something to admire as is the overall result. A credit to one of the most exquisite weapons in SciFi history.

Warmest congratulations.

Are you going to add the white wash to the grips?

I must admit I hadn't noticed this.

Is it not just dirt?

Do do I need to lightly paint the chequered areas white then wipe the paint off the hight spots?

All depends on if the prop is going to be handled a lot or just on display.

If it's just going to be displayed with minimal handling, you can just give the grips a coat of plastic polish, and buff it with a cloth, the polish should leave a whitish residue in the checkering on the grips as long as you don't wipe that area too hard. If you do, just reapply some more. I did this on my stunt and my Coyle, and when it dried, it had that kind of powdery white look in the checkering.

If its to be handled, I'd say use some thinned down white paint and brush it lightly into the checkering, then immediately wipe/blot the excess paint with a cloth. You can spot clean any over flow on the clear areas with a q-tip and some paint thinner. I've not tried using paint thinner or acetone on the grips, so I don't know if it'll harm the grip's color/surface.
