No wonder my best friend from high school had these, his Father was from Denmark (his mother was French). He always had cool stuff I never saw anywhere else. He also had the real Lego sets. Not too many kids had the real ones back then. I had a fake set myself that was made to look like real brick.

Very cool to see they are being made again.

I´m just wondering how semi-unknown 1970és danish green/blue bouncy things ended up on Nostromo...

Good question... Who knows ? Maybe they came from a fancy gift shop in London ? (the shop where the drinking birds also came from ?)

Thank you again for your help FBM. I just ordered a few of these tonight after comparing some of the screencaps we have here and images of the real, original Hoptimists... I think some of them were used as is (those on Ripley's desk) while others were rather radicaly altered (Ash's assault on Ripley scenes).

More soon when I get the ones I ordered !

Fred

PS : timeslip, why don't you simply google Hoptimist ? (that's how I easily found a shop in the UK that sells them...)

PS2 : A back view of Ripley's Hoptimists... They just added a kind of hat on the blue one..

After viewing the pics I agree with Fred: some were altered but not radically (which makes our work easy Wink ) Most of the ones on the web-site seems to be aboard the Nostromo...it seems that they removed the hat of the red ''Santa'' on Ripley's console.

I think they actualy used a Baby Bumble or a Baby Bimble for this one, not a Santa...

OK, got my Optimists !

They're neat, I really like to see them gently move as I tip on my Mac (they're usually sitting side to side on the same desk) :

I don't know right now if I'm going to alter them to make them look like the ones sitting on Ripley's desk because I very recently found new evidence that they were heavily transformed (wiggets sticked, re-painted, a hat on the big one, even a sticker on another one) by the prop guys... and the reference photos I found in my archives aren't clear enough to deliver a precise work...

Any chance one of you guys would have high rez pics from the Blueray edition ???

Many thanks in advance for your help !

Cool

Fred

I found my boxed one in my storage this past week while getting ready for a show. It says "the Bird" on the top of the box and the bird is purple, and unfortunately has a broken off wing. It says made in the USA though on it. I will try to post some pics soon.

Anyone noticed or pointed out that the coffee cups during the deleted 'Drinking bird destruction sequence' are dark brown/red as opposed to the usual cream/white?

I'll try and sort some out for Saturday evening - not sure how to capture from the telly so it might be an iPhone shot which *may* not come over well.

Still waiting for your pics !

BTW, I think I saw a brown coffee pot with WY wings decal next to Ripley in the first meal sequence...

Colin / 8th_Passenger kindly sent me this screencap this morning :

He also tells me :

Hard to tell in this photo but it does look like they may have used a darker cup. It's all backlit. Maybe the white cup didn't go dark enough. Or it is the white cup and it did go dark enough!

I agree, it's hard to tell if they have used a darker cup or not... but it would have been logical since they also re-painted the walls of the ship black to make the end sequence with Ripley more oppressing...

Anyhow, thank you again Colin for the pic !

Cool

Screencaps of the breakfast sequence where you can spot the brown / translucent coffee pot I was previously talking about...
