Yep, good catch on the Narcissus interior shot. Totally forgot about that one.

Man, that set looks more cobbled-together than usual for this film.

Notice how they made it all 'tubey' to camoflage the alien's noggin' lol

Brett & Parker's room as seen in Sir Ridley's storyboards... Looking at this, I think I understand better the way the real set was designed ! (there's even the central pillar possibly re-used later in the Narcissus interior set)

Have not seen Alien for a while now...but I remember clearly the Alien appearing at the right handside of the frame, opposite those ''noodles''.

Yeah, she doesn't notice because he's curled up and looks like part of the machinery. I think I remember reading somewhere that maybe it was at the end of its lifecycle and was preparing to die.

You mean hiding out so she could turn her into an Egg like Dallas, and infect earth. This was pre Queen concept, and I think they wanted to show the intelligence of the creature.

Q: After the Nostromo blew up, and Ripley discovers that the alien is
on board the escape capsule, why does the alien take SO long to attack
her?
A: [possibly] the alien was coming to the end of its life cycle, when
Ripley happened to disturb it. It was slow to attack because it was
dying. This theory is supported by an older version of the "ALIEN"
script where Ash reveals that the alien had made a nest and ensured
the continutation of its species (cocooned Dallas and transformed
Brett into an egg) at which time the alien itself would approach the
end of its lifecycle; curl up and die.

Also, Dallas was intended to be the host for the Brett-facehugger.

I do know they revamped the infirmary set to make the engine room set. They are the same shape. If someone could point me the way to help me post pics, I'll post a small blueprint of the engine room... it's nothing special, it's a small pic, but may help. Very Happy

SJ, you could set up a Photobucket account or Imageshack and they let you upload pictures, then you just post the link.

I think there is a way to just attach pictures in your reply but i'm not sure how.

Interesting info I had never heard of !

I always thought the main idea behind this was that at the end of its life cycle the Alien would cocoon himself in order to transform into an egg... making it an almost immortal creature evolving from a form to another !
(great idea, don't you think ?)

I think a better question is, how exactly does Sigourney's panties stay on. Shocked

On the DVD they show one version of the story where the eggs are in a stone pyramid. On the wall is a glyph showing the life cycle.I think it went egg-facehugger-creature-egg.

Here's a very small image of the engine room...it's the only one I have, though the title of it is 'Int. Engine Room (Revamp of Autodoc)'.
Fred and Neil, thanks for your help with the image upload.

Giger's been one of my long time inspirations. The only time I even got remotely close to his neighborhood of artistic genius was a book cover I did for an anthology of horror stories. To date it's still one of my best works.

Great pictures Fred lol

I never thought of why the alien would be there either, becoming an egg again makes sense.

OK, back to the topic !

Got my first drinking bird... Now I have to find blue feathers... Gosh, where am I gonna find this ? A cabaret ? A gay pride ? A grandmother hat ? Le moulin Rouge ?

I'll have to repaint partialy the hat in white, too... This will be easier than the feather thing !
