Finished these yesterday. I like them a lot! Thanks Eltee.
I've 'restored' the cop image for anyone that wants it. Shadows from the badge ring and light reflections in the plastic 'bubble' have been erased as have some of the scratches. I also extended the shirt and yellow background a little so that you don't have any problems with cropping.
It will print at the correct size.

Yes, great job on the badges and cheers for the extra.
I cant tell from the pic if you have done it or not, but you can cut out a clear plastic top for the id pic out of anything suitable or try going around
different watch makers/repairers and find a proper fit. When i get some time i`ll give this a go. _________________ Formerly offworld66

I've just got a clear piece of plastic over the photo but I plan on trying to make it more of a bubble by heating it in hot water and using the ring to form it into shape. |

Go to a friendly watchmaker. They have a variety of inexpensive watch "crystals" (plastic) of all sizes. I know I found one once for the little, wallet badge but I liked the big badge without the dome. Also, you may want to check with Karl Tate or someone who has seen a screen used one, but the pics seem to show a flat plastic cover.
The "dome" over the picture may have been part of that legendary secretive wallet set that people later debunked. I never saw a confirmed screen used badge so I am simply speculating but the Worldcon pictures did not make it look like there was a big dome on the picture. |

Oh there's definitely not a big 'dome' over the picture, looks more like a slight bulge though from the reflections on it.

Eltee,
Has anybody been able to get in touch with Blad? I would love to be able to see if we can use his more accurate sculpt of the Hat badge to make a metal version of that too.
Again, I just want to say how much I love my badge from you too.
Thank you again,
Andy |

Worked pretty good!
First I filed down the back of the ring so that it is even. Then I cut a piece of clear plastic (from the window on a 12" Star Wars figure box) larger than the ring and glued it to the back of the ring with superglue.
I held the ring over a boiling kettle with pliers (it gets very hot) until the plastic sagged around the edges, then while still hot I pressed the bottom of a Tamiya paint jar which was the right size into the plastic to form a bulge then immediately cooled it under the cold tap.
If you don't get the shape right first time just re-heat it and it will return to its original shape. It also worked pretty good with a small spot light bulb.
Now you can see the rounded edge catching the light

Andy,
I've PM'd him and emailed him. Not a word and no sign of him on the usual sites he used to frequent. Haven't seen his wife pop up either. I hope nothing bad happened. He was a super friendly, helpful and talented guy.

According to his RPF profile, Blad's most recent activity there was on April 19, 2009... today. I hope this means he's simply keeping a low profile because he's busy, and that nothing bad has happened. I know he's an educator and things may get especially hectic for him at this time of year. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

This is a coincidence. I checked his profile there a couple of weeks ago and he hadn't been online since 2007. Hadn't his wife been ill? Perhaps things are resolved and he has some free time again. Here's hoping everything's okay with them. _________________ Walk tall, walk straight

Wow, that IS an odd coincidence.
Had his wife been ill? I hadn't known that. I do know from personal experience that Blad used to get extremely busy at certain times of the year and virtually disappear from the boards and e-mail for weeks or even months at a time. But two full years? That makes me fear that he's been more than just busy.
Like you, I hope everything is all right with him. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

Some people just get tired of the hobby especially when real world stuff becomes so much more important. He had mentioned on another board something about changing jobs around the last time we heard from him too. Considering how active he was on so many boards though, I hope to not fear the worst. After Siderio, I do not want to lose any more members from tragedy.
Jedi Rick is another person from these boards that has been MIA, and I had heard from him a couple of months ago, and he has told me he has just been busy with work related stuff. I know from those of us that still have jobs, that we are working extra hard to fill in the shoes of those that have been laid off.
