Well, some of you might remember the 2001 topic i made a few months back.
Well, i'm looking for more advice.
I wanna know what classic movies i should see next.
I was thinking

Logans Run?
Taxi Driver?
The Fifth Element?

All suggestions would be appreciated Smile

...you might consider going back a little further....Forbidden Planet...has always been a point of departure in discussing sci fi movies....it's loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and absolutely worth a look....for the love of God man ROBBY THE ROBOT.....it changed my life....but then I'm old.....

Personally, I wouldn't call Fifth Element "classic" just yet, maybe in another 5-10 years Laughing (love the movie though).

Both Logan's and Taxi Driver are great movies--a great double feature IMO would be Logan's and Silent Running, or Taxi Driver and China Town.

Forbidden Planet is a must-see as well--I'd also recommend the original "The Thing" for another must see of that era.

Thanks Brian Smile
I think i'm gonna have to give all of these ago at some point.
Most of the movies that are coming out now-a-days i can't stand, so i'm going back in time instead Smile

anything Kubrick is cannon ... regarding sci-fi.

i would also HIGHLY recommend 'SOLARIS' - but only Tarkovsky's original. its long, but in the classic sense, it is so very good ... especially since it was filmed during the Soviet era.

aside, i would also say rent The Martian Chronicles. cheesy - sure, but very kewl nonetheless, and some very catchy pre-techno soundtrack support to boot!

For remembrance sakes, it might be worth watching Logan's Run because Farrah Faucet is in it briefly. She is also in Saturn 3 with Kirk Douglas and Harvey Keitel. Another movie worthy of note, mostly for the robot and sets, which I found pretty cool. Plus Harvey is the only one NOT to get naked in it thankfully Wink

Didn't they dub him in that one?

But yeah, the Hector robot was bad ass.

I guess it's the week for typos: Farrah Faucet? Fawcett is better. Wink

LOL, Thanks. I have been rushing my posts the last few days, and haven't been proof reading them. I have noticed quite a few typos when I reread them today. Embarassed Wink

Someone's probably done a Master's thesis on "Compare and contrast Deckard's apartment with Logan's apartment".

I was going to say pretty much what andy had posted! A couple others that come to mind are Sleeper, the Woody Allen comedy; and Saturn 3, a rip-off of Alien starring the late Farrah Fawcett. (Yes, it's a bad movie, but I liked it for the sets and Farrah.)

"Metropolis" is a must-see for any BR fan, the connections are fascinating. You might want to wait for the latest restoration though. They found about 20 minutes of missing footage in South America and are working it back into the film. That should be worth the wait.

Thanks again guys.
I've heard about Metropolis but never seen it Sad Will definiteley give it a watch though.

Also, i saw The Fifth Element at the weekend, not seen it in years.
Really enjoyed it.
I can see why people really like the props from the movie, some really great items.
I especially liked Korben's phone.

I have to second (third, fourth...) Metropolis. Still a very visually cool movie and very much a "have to see" film.
