|
|
Hi all, a few weeks ago someone asked to see my blaster, its only now after weeks of work I am OK to show where I am up to.
As the topic indicates its a black resin Michele version of the Sidkit, which I bought from ebay and Customs kindly allowed me to receive.
I have replaced the resin bulldog grip, outer grip frame & butt plate with aluminium, as with the barrel and Steyr firing pin (above barrel) I replaced the phillips screws with slotted, made a trigger guard from steel as with the barrel support, both blued. Ammo clip held in with magnets, leds just dummies at the moment.
Lots more to do in terms of finessing and filling aero-bar type resin castings, but I am happy with the progress. I have lined up an engraver to do the serial no. for me.
Blobby, misshapen, but enough about me...
Anyway, comments and constructive criticism welcome. Thank you for a great forum and for Karl Tate's pics, without them I would be firing blind.
GS

Lookin' very good mate! Did you cut the alu pieces yourself? Good thinking about the numbers...more details, that's what we all need when re-creating a prop.
Keep up the good work GS. |

Thank you Guys for the compliments on my blaster build. It has been fun so far and seems to be going well. Yes, I cut/machined the metal parts myself from mostly scrounged materials.
Today I bought some photoetched numbers to do the serial no. (?) on the front of the ammo housing beneat the barrel. it looks like 22.03.004 .Not sure how to do the Steyr logo in there tho.
One question, has anyone worked out how to fit a spring to the front trigger on these babies?
Thank you, GS _________________ I want more detail, Father! |

wow! those machined aluminium parts look fantastic! Have you considered re-casting the receiver into metal? sounds daunting, but the blueing finish would make a world of difference over the paint.
if you're interested in a front plate I've got one, slightly pertruded than the original, though maybe you can recast a resin version with slightly less pertruded graphics.

Hi Beast, Thank you for the compliment! I would love to have a metal receiver, but I have no skills in metal casting. I could make the mold, but resin casting is all I can do for now. During the week I grabbed some metaliser paints that I hope will look good over the matt black primer.
Thank you for the offer of the front plate, that and your other pieces there look terrific. I think I will try my idea first and see what happens.
Today I machined a new sight rod from alum. bar including milled slots done on the lathe. Tomorrow I am picking up a knurling tool so should have pics in a day or two. So far it looks good.
Any comments on my blued steel trigger guard? _________________ I want more detail, Father! |

OK, here is a pic of my new sight rod compared to the resin one from the kit. It took me a bit of practice with the knurling tool to get it right.
The slots were milled in the lathe. It will have non-active leds in it as I cannot find any evidence they were ever lit on the prop. Love to hear your comments. _________________ I want more detail, Father! |

Yes, good work indeed, next you'll have to mold all the resin parts, use low temp steel and start pouring |

Thank you for the kind comments, I appreciate it. I wish I had the time/resources to go into production on this stuff, but unfortunately I am struggling to find enough time just to work on my own effort. Also, parts that are made to fit the Michele/Sidkit may not fit other replicas correctly.
Anyway, now that I have finished making metal parts for mine its onto finishing off the resin components, painting, etc.

Yep, low-temp steel: easy to use, melts at a low heat (570 max); you can use a blow torch (any hardware store will have them for cheap) put it in a laddle, heat it, pour into your plaster mold and voilĂ : a metal piece with, I think, 93 or 95% copper content. Much more than the regular pewter that Siderio used for his gun...now a Google search is in order my friend |

Hi Joberg, I have done a few searches. Do you mean low melting point alloys like white metal? I think that is what Sid used, the metal parts on mine certainly are not steel, though the gun blue does work on them slowly. Not sure of the chemistry involved there.
In any case, I am not set up for metal casting, only resin. I am just tring to replace some of the resin parts of the kit for 2 reasons. Stronger and more substantial, plus more accurate in some cases.
No real progress this week as real life gets in the way.
Cheers, G _________________ I want more detail, Father! |

You can use high temp silicone rubber with the low mellting alloy.
It works very well.
You should make a resin backup plate of your molds so you can make new rubber molds without having to set up the master again.
