Hey all!

I had several things lying around again, and it struck me that I had everything necessary to put together a very simple model of the "Origin" Kanji neon sign.

I must confess that I don't remember where I had found the sign, since that was several months ago. So, many, many thanks to the original maker for the template.

I scaled the sign to a size that would fit on a CD blank stack cover and printed it out on sticky paper. Next I put this onto a piece of semi-clear plastic (from a cannibalized DVD casing) so that it would have an even surface, and glued this into the lid.

Then I used the rest of the sticky (white) paper and put that into the container base (after removing the central column with a bit of dremelling).

I was unsure as to how I should fix the purple LED chain I had to the paper, and I used some sticky tape to hold it in place temporarily. This worked better than I had expected, so I continued to stick the LEDs in a roughly spiral shape, until I felt the lights were more or less evenly distributed.

The last step was to fix the battery box and a picture hanger to the back of the base. Gaffer tape is an amazing adhesive.

This is it, basically. I will still have to cover the sides; whether it will be with black paint or something unnecessarily more complicated remains to be seen.
It was a fun little three-hour build, and I hope you had some fun reading about it, too.

Cheers

Jens

Jens- That is incredibly cool! Such a simple idea that defies the finished look. Well done.
