|
|
Here are some preliminary pics of my newly arrived Worldcon version of the Bladerunner blaster made by Rich Coyle. Rich and I did alot of communicating as he worked on this, and it took several months. He used some of the info I provided from the actual hero gun that was auctioned earlier this year and incorporated it into this version. IMHO the pictures don't do it justice.
I was able to acquire the correct, original "other knob" which is an electical binding post (thanks Andy!) to replace Coyle's copy. I am also working on making up a custom pointer / laser aimer piece so that I can have better detail and instead of painting it (which fills in detail) will have it chemically colored. I was thinking of aluminum but my machinist thinks it would be cooler in steel, so I either will cold blue it (using black "blueing" on steel) or alumi-black it (if made in aluminum). I really like the barrel on this version, it is steel.
Anywhere, here are a few early pictures. The first one is a side by side with my Coyle (NON-Worldcon) all metal blaster:
This is of the right side of the new RAC Worldcon:
Here is the left side with the cylinder open (it fits full sized .44 special rounds):
Here is the right side with the cover plate removed:
Here is a shot of the front with the "pin" in both the retracted and seated positions:
Here is an overlay of the auctioned off hero next to the Coyle replica:
This blaster uses the standard side screw versus the Weaver scope knob as seen on the hero, screen used blaster. I have the option of adding the Weaver knob later, but I like it better this way since no caps or photos have emerged indicating that the Weaver knob was ever used in filming. Maybe in time I'll change my mind and switch over, but I don't think so. |

Thanks, but I didn't do anything but feed info to Richard as I got it from the auction gun. Rich did all the work. |

That's it; it's official: I busted a cable
Wow Eltee, now that's a serious gun...it's true that Rich made the necessary changes and what a great job he did on that baby...now, if one day you feel like parting with it... |

My heavens but this is a terrific blaster mate. I've always been of the opinion that Rich can produce some of the best replica's out there and with your input, I think he's outdone himself here.
Congratulations on this truly fine acquisition! |

Thanks for sharing the pictures. The blaster looks awesome! Bravo. Eltee, I have to agree that you shouldn't be so modest.

I am glad to see he fixed a few of the things that always bugged me about it that I had talked with him about. Still, there are a few things that still bug me about it. The grips still look kind of cloudy. I know some of Karl's close up pics got some refractive flare from the flash that made them look cloudy, but all the rest of the pics made them look crystal clear.
The grips also still look a bit misshapen, and stretched out. More straight and thin than rounded, as the ones from the original look.
The Steyr clip still also sticks out way too much. I think Rich modeled his originally on the stunt copies which used another clip that seemed to stick out more. The hero one is almost flush.
The steyr clip housing also does not fit tightly against the receiver. There is a space in the front where the receiver is cut out. Also the line on the receiver on that side above the housing does not look straight. I don't even want to talk about the bolt end cap
Still all and all it is a huge improvement and the best one that can be bought now. And, I am also quite envious of it Eltee

Rich caught the end cap casting flaw when he saw the pic and is sending a new one. Easy swap.
The grip color / translucency is tricky to photograph. Light, background color and reflectivity, etc. make it tough. I might shoot some shots on a light table to see if the contours and translucency show better.
Rich used a real Steyr mag for the master on this. I may not have seated it properly, I'll check.
I am going to be upgrading this as best I can with "real" parts. I am going to to try a Steyr mag and maybe a Steyr bolt handle. I will have the upper barrel "pin" machined out of steel or aluminum, I have a real binding post and just need to shorten and thread the stem, and I am going to see about doing a "pointer rod" in steel.
Kind of an addiction, isn't it?? |

The original end cap was a flawed casting and Rich immediately sent me a replacement. Here is the gun with the correctly casted piece.

Great news Eltee..
I think this is a top-end build and getting better with your input and his skillset.
In a way, I'm hoping that this project helps Rich mend some bridges along the way...
Keep us up to date if you will. _________________

Just a quick note to remind everyone, the Coyle Blaster is now available to order via Rich for delivery in the UK and (most of) Europe through me as I am acting as his agent for the UK and Europe. PM for full details or contact Rich directly at RAC Props (racprops@cox.net).

Hi
Yep Eltee... I bought a Coyle Worldcon Metal blaster too. Sept2009.
Could not resist. It weighs exactly 4.0lbs with the bullets inside.
Things I changed:
I replaced the "other knob" adjustable knob, with one I got from Andy-propsummit, thanks Andy. Hard to blue this knob as it is stainless steel...might paint it later but it looks OK as is in bare metal.
Changed the plastic slotted big screw with a metal one, blued.
I blued the steyr receiver and the barrel with G96 Bluing Creme (gives the pewter receiver kind of a blue/grey steel look actually).
Machined, dremelled a hole next to the slotted screw, kind of by accident so the bullet cylinder closes properly...looks OK... I will leave it as is.
Polished the amber grips. They are very transparent, not cloudy.
I replaced the trigger mechanism (inside the gun handle) with a steel rod and steel ball joint (like the Tomenosuke), instead of the pewter one.
The real bullets... I added little removeable magnets to show primer has been disabled.
I glued the steel gun barrel to the bulldog frame with epoxy (makes it very sturdy and more solid feel). Plus some other minor modifications, I won't list here...to the wiring etc.
The case is from ebay, a gun case from the Americase (USA) brand.
Big thanks again to Rich Coyle (very helpful and has an excellent product) and thanks Propsummit.
