Ok, I have not looked into this move "Children of Men" one bit. I only caught a commercial and have seen some blurbs on the web comparing it with Blade Runner.

Does anyone have the low down on this film? I know what I can find out on the net, but I want opinions from people here

Thanks!

Tom

It sounds cool, a dystopia type story where humans can no longer reproduce. I'm not sure about the other issues but I saw a trailer and a coffee shop got bombed. I'm eagerly awaiting a DVD release of this.

I saw the same commercial in which they made the "Blade Runner of the 21st Century" comparison. I couldn't help but give a crooked Rick Deckard smile when I heard that. Every filmaker dreams of such an accolade.

:LOL

And souless film promoters will use anything to get 3 more people to buy a ticket.
Plot sounds interesting and it's a quality produced piece.
I plan to see it in the theater because some associates crewed on the film and said " gotta see it" Funny, not one mentioned Ridley or Bladerunner.Smile

I have read more on the film, and it does look very intriguing. The only similarity I could find to Blade Runner at this point was possibly a dirty and bleak future.

Otherwise, once I view this, I will gladly report on how it was and if there are truly and similarities.

Thanks for the input Rick!

No problem. I'm sure the filmakers are just tripping over themselve to get my endorsement. Cool

I thought Children of Men was a fantastic film, highly recommended. There are a few action scenes lasting 10 minutes or more, all filmed in one shot, which are unlike anything I've ever seen. Really cool.

Sorry, it looked so bad in the previews I couldn't see wasting time or money on it.

Every time I see a dark green, desaturated film, I am turned off by it. I especially hate shakey, CGI "handheld" shots. Who do they think they are fooling???

The premise also seemed pretty stupid. In the future people will be more vain, violent and detached. They won't have time to riot about anything but sports and food.

And why would an 'overpopulated' world even care about someone's baby?

In a nutshell; a future where the population worries about its being too big at 2 billion people, thinks they can live forever by not smoking, not drinking, nor eating meat, and thinks 'liberty is a luxury we can no longer afford' would be much more believeable than a future where people actually care about anything substantive.

And Bladerunner for the 21st century?? What does this mean??

Created by less than the sharpest blades in the block.

I loved the movie, I thought it was going to be more of the same when I saw the trailer but I really liked it.

Masao you really didn't get what the movie was about... but then again you didn't even take the time to actually watch it before bad mouthing it Rolling Eyes

The movie isn't about people getting upset about trivial things like sports and food...

It's about the end of the human species and how it would affect society as a whole.
If this most recent generation was the last to be born on this planet don't you think things would start to crumble??
I seriously suggest you take a chance and watch the film, it's a very well done and powerful piece. Plus one of the final scenes in the film was filmed all in one take... I think it set a record for the longest single shot scene in a film IIRC...

EDIT: spelling
