For something completely different, I thought I may as well own up to wanting to do something completely different with the Fertility Idol from Raiders...

As people who have seen my other work know, for me any movie prop is a prop first and foremost and I've never regarded the idol as anything other than a "made for movies" item. Like my BR blaster, my feelings towards the idol are firmly rooted in the real world, so I made the decision to try and make it reflect the prop as we saw it presented in the Prop Store collection photo's published a while back.

Since the general opinion out there appears to be that the Idols are generally not 100% accurate (not that I care), I chose to concentrate on replicating the prop in its sorry pre-restoration state as opposed to trying to make it 'accurate' and in its boring solid GOLD finish.

As always, the photographs don't do the finish justice because the surface texture is not at all as pronounced as it seems from these pictures. I hope that these are of some mild interest and that the pictures give you a reasonable idea of how it turned out.

Excellent work Starr , very very nice,
I happen to own one of the original Raiders Idols, in partiucular the one that was thrown across the gap and caught by Alfred Molina and I've always thought it would have been painted by the natives , rather than polished gold !!
I thinkyou've got it just right ! as you've guessed, I'm also a big Indy fan too !

Oh yes! I prefer your treatment of the idol...I think the paint job is A+ (as usual, you're a magician with paint/pastel/pencil, etc) Cool...saw it on the RPF this morning also.

Thanks everyone, your kind comments are as always, warmly appreciated.

Mate, I'm intrigued to hear you have that prop. Have you posted pictures of it anywhere? I might have seen them but I'm not sure..
