Yes, someone is bound to look at those kitchen lamps and it might look like the prop guy just cobbled something together...you guys are going to show me how to post photos in propsummit.
The first lamp, that is, the lamp with the claws only (3 claws according to photos) was the more popular i.e. less expensive of the 2 models.
The other one i.e. ''Syd Mead'' design was more moola.
I'm afraid that Syd didn't draw that one; sometimes your imagination is playing tricks on you and subliminaly you thought that you, and only you, came up with the design.
Not to mention that, as a designer, you have access to a lot of material, magazines and professional design journals full of new stuff.

It's the old question: egg or chicken? Or who copied who?

I saw there's a saturn lamp on ebay now if anyone is interested. With the blue details it looks more like a 70 repro than an original.

Hope this helps,

Yes, as you said: hard to find, that's why you don't care if it's the right colour or not; you just buy it! Very good find:-)

Great find Joan,
I had to let one go i found about a month ago because the shipping was too much, it was the same as the original, i regret not getting it so much its not funny.
I keep faith that i will find one and a dazor locally, its surprising how
many things i have come across just in Melbourne, one of the advantages of our long releationship with the US possibly.
Joan, its been said many times but you must show us your entire collection, i know you have space issues but if you could somehow find a studio or large office space etc to use for a day and probably a large truck to move it would be a lot of work for you but a bonus for us. Very Happy

Yeas, the "right" color could be difficult to know. Dark one, yeah, but which color? Snapshots are very dark.

Anyway, color is not so important in this case. Is a matter of paint... Very Happy

This lamp needs general cleaning and perhaps a repaint in all. Another task to put in the queue! Very Happy

1. Shipping in this case was not cheap... but lamp are big and some heavy thus... no options! Pay or not pay... I live in a very little town, working in the city (Barcelona) but despite this, these items are not available in Spain thus... my main concerns, ever, are shipping charges...

2. Dazor was a beautiful lamp used here in Spain too, but a long time ago... impossible to locate one, IMHO.

3. Wow. MOVE ALL ???? mmmm... in fact, I wanna expose the entire collection in a future (2019? Very Happy Very Happy) but... only thinking about moving is cumbersome... Books alone... are 2 meters high and 1 meter wide shelves.... To take a picture with all is my wish too... but I think is easier to make a video!!! Very Happy

Will think about...

From some of the scenes in the apartment with brighter lighting the lamp I am pretty sure is an off white or cream color. You can see it pretty well in the opening shot of the 'Dangerous Days' documentary. The contrast of the light coming from inside the shade or diffuser makes the body more shadowed and darker. I thought for sure it was black for a long time myself.

Nice catch Joan.

Thank you Andy! I *ever* think about the movie and not about extra content!!!!

An off-white is easy to achieve from pure white.... mmmm... will think about this when I repaint it (if possible).

Does anyone know if the Dazor lamp on top of his piano is the only Dazor Saucer lamp he has.

I was able to get one but it's not black.

I can paint it to match no problem but I want to see if by chance there is another one in the apartment

His isn't black either. It is most likely the metalic brown color most of these seem to be. The only place I see this lamp is on his piano, but I would not be surprised to find it somewhere else in the movie with the way they rotated the set decorations.

Looking at the Piano pic it looks black in one and metallic in the other.

I will watch it tonight.

Kind of sick of painting stuff so I think I will leave it as it came.

Tim, I saw a black one on Ebay a month or so before I won mine. Can't remember exact but I think it went for a lot
