I found these a while ago and posted about them at propcircle, but I decided to post it here because I would like this place to become a one stop shop for people looking up BR prop info.

I found these ashtrays in a couple of different styles at thrift stores and got them because I thought the design was cool...

Later I was watching the movie and noticed them in the scene were in bryants office Gaff makes the origami chicken from a piece of paper in an ashtray that matches my ashtrays...

They are called Safex ashtrays and come with and without grooves in the middle that put out cigarettes that fall in. Many can be found with advertising from the 50s of casinos and hotels.

Time to refresh my origami skills.

I had one in my garage. Bought a box of glass door knobs and odds and ends at an auction 3 -4 years ago and it was in there with some other glass junk pieces.

BTW Found a sushi chef that does origami. Right now he is doing 1,000 cranes, When he finishes his fortune comes true or something. Anyway when he is done, I thought I'd hit him up for some chickens, unicorns etc.

I took the origami talk out and put it in a new thread. If anyone wants it returned to the way it was, please let me know!

Thanks!

Anybody know if it would be difficult to remove the casino decals from one of these? They seem to be much more prevalent than the plain clear ones.

In most cases the casino decals are actually a silk screen process glass adhesion and yes, that is a bitch to remove. The plain one show up pretty often. They were popular with a lot of hotel / restaurants and i remeber seeing them at restaurant asupply houses with no labeling.

The casino ones sell for a lot more and in truth the bottom of the ashtray is not seen in the movie...it could be a casino version for all we know.

found my other Safex ashtrays in the cupboard...

These are the ones with the self extinguishing bottoms. One of the reason I loved these ashtrays even before I knew they were in BR, is their industrial, functional, art deco quality. I don't even smoke.
