Thanx Jo and Jt. Oh and Jt, love your avatar.

Here's the next update, dealing with what i believe to be the most difficult part to put together in the kit. So i'll show it step-by-step.

** The metal grid/frame that's in front of the big spotlight on the roof **

Here's all the parts that come in the kit. The cast frame is shipped on the styrene template to ensure it doesn't warp over a longer period of time. Hey it's still resin. The off-white resin has been replaced with the beige one, for better results. The pic shows two castings, the kit comes with ONE.

The styrene strips are not cut to length.

After the casting tabs are sanded smooth from the frame, the part is stuck to the support with tiny pieces of tape.

The round 0.4mm styrene rods are cut to length, and one side is glued in first. ONLY USE A SMALL DOT OF THICK SUPERGLUE ON THE END OF THE ROD !!!. Otherwise you'll glue your styrene bits to the support.

Added the first vertical 0.5x1mm styrene strip. Please note i cut in a V-shape to all the strips so they are nice and flush with the cast frame.

Added tape to make sure pieces don't move during assembly, and can dry properly. First one side. I did all the pieces on the right first, although you could start on the left as well. Up to you.

Again first the 0.4mm rod, and then the rectangular strips next. As shown i add a tiny drop of thick superglue with a tool of preference. I use thick superglue for the entire assembly as it will not flow and stick your parts to the support. Be cautious nonetheless.

All the strips glued in place.

The two styrene triangles are glued to the bottom of the support, with the halfcircle cutout as shown in the picture. It should be flush to the lower ends of the cast frame. The triangles will guide the sanding of the styrene strips.

On the top i added some 2mm styrene for counterpressure during sanding, cut to shape by hand and taped it in place. Use thin strips of tape all over, so they come off afterwards with ease, and don't rip your assembled part to pieces.

After gentle sanding, the pointy ends of the strips are flush with the frame. Before sanding, i dotted the frame with a black felt marker to make sure i don't sand away too much.

The final assembly on the support.

After taking the assembly of the support, i've added thin superglue to all the connections for strength, and took away excess glue with a tissue. This minimizes the potential warping due to excess glue.

And here's the final result.

More on tuesday.

Cheers,

Wasili

Thanx Joberg...

Update..

The two boxes on the rear, next to the taillights. They are similar, but not identical.

Here's the machined pieces that make up both boxpatterns (sorry, doesn't look very spectacular). In the kit these will be solid resin pieces, with a seperate styrene strip for the handle (on top of the box). Still missing the clamps on each side, and the straps that fix the boxes on the hull.

More on saturday.

Cheers,

Wasili

Update..

I finished the boxes and have them in silicone.

Redid the axle pivots (bit adhoc, i know). Not really interesting to look at, but a part nonetheless. I'm now at Version3 for them. The pic (below) shows V1 at the back (too tall), and V3 at the front (new, short, thicker backbone). V2 was ripped to shreds when i used a new doublesided tape when placing the part in the moldbox.

The axlepivots are placed from within the frame, and supported on the inside to make sure the whole thing doesn't sag. The 'backbone' is therefore not visible. Only the circular ends are.

I made one mold, and just now poured the second one.

More next saturday.

Cheers,

Wasili

Thank you all for the kind words guys. Much appreciated.

Update.

Here's the exhaust, positioned on the rear, directly above the taillights. There's one on each side, and they're identical. I only had side and 3/4 views, until Willie Goldman provided an excellent rear shot. Thanx very much Willie

It's a small part, so had to beef up the thicknesses up to 0.4 - 0.5mm thick minimum.

Beware, this is a 3d rendering, not the physical piece. I have machined the front and back, and made the cad files for all the pieces in between.

More next saturday.

Cheers,

Wasili

Thanx for the kind words guys. Appreciate it..

Update:

Here's the latest and final revision of the canisters on the rear deck. Beware, this is a 3d rendering. The diameter of the canister is a little over 10mm, so it's not a very big (or exciting) piece. The detailing is as close as it gets.

The two 0.25mm thick straps will be machined from styrene, the rest is going to be a single resin casting.

More this weekend.

Cheers,

Wasili

Last week i started (spray)painting, the brown bess paintsamples among other.

Samples on the board.

Yes, it's that notorious brown bess, which is surprisingly.. uhmm.. brown..Humbrol #170.

Bagged.

Yesterday saw the first testcastings of a new urethane rubber for the tires. The previous rubber i used was giving pretty bad results, and immediately damaged the tiremold, but this stuff is very promising. I used an old mold (once used for the tirepattern), died the rubber black, and poured some pieces.

The shine is a nice subtle satin/flat, bit difficult to see on the pic. As this is urethanerubber, i superglued a resin casting to it, and it sticks like hell. Another problem solved that i'll come back to later.

Next up some production parts. 20 sets (2 each) of d-shackle hookup thingies (whatever you call them) on the nose. Used to cast them, easier to simply machine them.

Small itty bitty chamfered blockies, underneath the main door rail. Again 20 sets (3 each).

From left to right: nose-sidelight-covers, gunsled topdiscs, crescent wheeldisc positioners (top middle), and all the louvres on the rear (right). All 20 sets. All in all a good week, i must say, nearly 500 parts.

More soon.

Cheers,

Wasili

Heya Guys,

Here's a rough assembly shot of a few production and pattern parts combined.

And yes, this is the completely finished, refurbished hull. Nearly half of it has been rebuild, most notably the topdeck and the nose. I haven't had time to put it into rubber, but can't wait myself to see the definitive painted result.

I'll shoot some better pics when the weather improves a bit. It looks way better in person.

Cheers,

Wasili

Heya folks,

The time has come for regular updates. Sorry for the delay.

The APC's come with a reference dvd filled with pics on the subject. Next to screencaps, there are a few folders with pics found on the internet. In total about 900 pics.

Please note the screencaps are from the DVD, not the Bluray. I'm sure there's still plenty to look at.

Next update on tuesday.

Cheers,
Wasili

Hey gang,

I was casting the small nuts that go with the APC's, but decided to make them all as cnc-ed parts, as pictured below. So no sanding the tiny pieces. Comes with the tapered top, although difficult to make out in the pic.

Yeah, i know this is boring stuff. The next update (up on friday) will be more interesting.

Cheers,

Wasili
