I want an inexpensive PKD Blaster, I found this one. http://www.frontiermodels.co.uk/Bladerunner-PDK-PISTOL-Prop-Resin-Model-Hobby-Kit-p-17200.html Anyone have experience with this kit? Any recommendations? I just want something simple that I can customize down the road. Thanks in advance, Josh.

PS. I am not going to buy the kit off that site, I found an American site that has it, also could someone link me to that nifty toy blaster?

I bought one and it's a mess. The grips are actually well cast, but the whole thing is just a lump of resin. The barrel is oval and the entire thing has a wedge shape to it rather than the straight line that a blaster should be. It's a recast of a recast of the Coyle Magnum. I've spent more than a few hours with a dremel and sculpting tools trying to make it worth looking at. I'm in the process of converting the bottom half to metal and I might do wooden grips and save the resin ones for another project.
If you must buy it, it's quite cheap here;

I found one on eBay a while back. It's a great cast, but I will be replacing a lot of it with metal. Richard Coyle is doing a kit run now in the Prop Shop forum. It's an all metal kit that requires a lot of work, but the end product is beautiful.

Hi Josh and welcome aboard...stay away from FrontierModels (re-caster alert! Evil or Very Mad ) PKD blasters (Rick Ross, a member here with his contact in the Prop Shop section) is a better bet, of course if you want a metal one you'll have to contact Rich Coyle in the Prop Shop also.

It is a recast of a Rick Ross PKD-1 (not Coyle, and not a magnum). It is also known as the "cool models" version because he is a long time bottom barrel recaster that makes really horrible misshapen and warped recasts in huge numbers. He also sells to others at conventions that resell elsewhere. I can't even say you get what you pay for, because I have heard many say they felt they got ripped off even at those prices.

Now that Rick is almost done doing his chess sets, he may be turning back to doing another gun run. His prices aren't much more than what you would pay for with the recasters, and you will be getting a quality product, and paying the original artist.

Rich Coyle had also done a "stunt" kit at one time. If there is enough interest he may be willing to resurrect them. Maybe even a new "Wordlcon version" based on his new guns, I am sure would be hugely popular if we can convince him to make them.

The only other option that I would hesitantly point out, is the Wilco Models version. It is also a Recast of a recast (a recast of the resin Sidkit, which is in turn a recast of Coyle's version 3). But, it is well made from durable resin and in very few, and cleanly cast parts.

If you don't mind waiting, I would wait for Rick or Rich, or even a third option that may be coming out soon. An officially sanctioned recast of Rick's PKD-2 by Matsuo. Not sure when, or if these will get made, but they should be great.

welcome to the board. my recommendation is to keep an eye out in the prop shop section, 'cause you'll you wont be getting a "recast", or dealing with shady sellers.

Interesting...

So that I will not be highjacking this tread, I started a thread of my own, about stunt models:

http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=2549

As much as I hate to suggest another model, I think the Off World M2019 blaster model, being diecast and plastic muli part is the next best to my model...

They show up from time to time on ebay...

I wish I could afford that, I have heard good things about his stuff. I am new to this, and I wanna get a sweet display piece, without breaking the bank. Hopefully he is still making these awesome kits in the future, once I get out of college and get a job the Coyle kit maybe a possibility but for know I need a cheap alternative that I can customize.

I really hope a company like side-show or Master Replicas gets a hold of the license and make some really true to life props.

Dude, don't wish for that....

Not one of these companies has ever made a totaly accurate model, every one has a problem with detailing or some feature and there is no service once they have sold out....

They make good Toys but charge prop recreations prices.

Looks like I'll wait. I'll check the shop board now and then. With 3d printers becoming more inexpensive, maybe we will see very accurate models being made. I mean you take the super accurate 3d model, print it with a 3d printer than paint it.

Even with a 3-D machine your prop can still be expensive, unless you start your own business into reproducing props and models, I'm afraid that for a "one-off" prop the price will be ridiculously high.
(btw, a good 3-D machine could cost at least $80.000) Crying or Very sad

In case you don't know racprops is Richard Coyle. I am pointing it out because he just pointed you to his stunt kit Wink.

I do agree though we need someone to make a no frills super simple resin kit for well under the $100 mark, and it would sell like hotcakes. Something along the lines of the Wilco models, but not a recast.

I have one of Rich's stunt kits and its a damn fine kit. Lots of room to customize it and adding lighting is a snap.

Mine is still available. It's not a kit (anymore), but you could customize it all you want once it's yours.
