Doubled up on the detail this weekend, started blending the hull and starting the detailing on it.. I bought a large amount of piano wire ... looked over Gigers's ALIEN book and watched the derelict sequence over and over..should be pretty close when I am done

Is getting better by the day! Where did you find those little grills JTP? (or did you made them yourself?)

Hi Joberg,

I had the back walls of my house re-stuccoed this spring, and of course it adds several inches of thickness to the walls, and one of my window screens would not fit back in correctly... so I am using screen cut carefully into little grills HA HA HA!!!
But now I have to buy new screen any way to make a correct fitting frame.. pretty crazy cannibalizing ones own home for a derelict

It makes you wonder just how many of the Space Jockey's race where laid dead throughout the rest of the ship, also what happened to the Alien that burst from the Space Jockey's chest ?
I always wondered if the area they lower Kane into was part of the ship or some sort of cavern below, as it looks massive !!!???

My assumption is that the Space Jockey was found in the dome shaped area on the top surface of the ship, and the area Kane was lowered into was the curved hold of the ship below that. When they show the eggs there is an excellent perspective shot - the walls clearly curve.

Great work JT. Never thought I'd see this ship available at that scale.

You are correct John, I am sculpting doors tonight that you see in the film.... The space jockey was up near that opaque dome, and the entrance curves up into that walled area in the corridor.

You are right about that egg scene... there is a visible light source from the far distance and when you see the rear of my model in the next few days..you will see where it is coming from

...those portals (hard to call them doorways) into the ship have been in both my conscious and unconscious for so long...and have always been (to me) a key element of the Derelict....this is where the rubber meets the road Joseph...(no pressure...smiling)....
...truly just looking forward to YOUR take on those damn holes......

Funny you should mention that.. I am doing the top row of three right now. I am fashioning one, and mold it 3 times...then apply it to the ship. THEN the holes get put in.
While I am doing this I am really getting a sense of what these things are....3 entrances that lead off in three separate points of the ship.. port, starboard and center. The reason I surmise this is it makes a much faster exit if it is a chute directly from the hammerhead side, or the "pistol" side... or even the control chamber.

There is one more possibility is this is also where the eggs were dropped from.... it is fairly level to the bottom of the cargo hold, and the pilot would be insulated by the "wall" Kane spoke of that they had to climb up. Possibly it served two functions? I am thinking in this configuration in the movie it is a subliminal entrance and exit.

I personally do not think there was anything under the derelict. I think this was a self-contained craft that crashed and sat there for millions of years.

I think what we have are blown escape hatches sitting open... Kind of a Gigeresque Duality here.... very twisted and brilliant actually....

Talking about details, do you still plan to include a scaled space jockey under the cockpit dome, JT ?

Screen door grill? See JT why 2 brains are better than one (never thought about using that material before Crying or Very sad duh!) I can see applications on the detailling of the Nostromo's landing gear Smile . As for those three openings, I can see the eggs being dropped by those.
Btw, if that ship is flying, is the front opposite of these openings? Another topic of discussion I guess.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

last night I finished molding the parts sets for the weird doors (ports, holes..?)

Here I have just temporarily tacked a couple on the front to get an idea of spacing. I will then add the upward tunnel in the doors after drilling the holes.... may have it all done tonight or tomorrow and start completion of the center dome

...Now I have started adding the tunnels to the entrances, Once this part is done, This weekend I can finish off the hull, and start the other "horn" of the ship. Now that the doorways will be in place, I will glaze them into the skin of the hull so they blend in smooth...
