Paper Props...?

Hi all,
New member here. I've been around on other forums for quite a while with this same screen name.
Has anyone actually built up a cigarette box using these images?
I'd love to see how it looks when completed!

Well, I know what it looks like built up now!
Thanks to Kevin for doing amazing art for these!

I may try this again with some slightly heavier paper. This was done on plain ol' construction paper.





It may be kind of hard to see, but I actually weathered this a bit using some 400 grit sandpaper. Dunno why a pack of cigarettes would be weathered, but what the hey.
It is now perched on top of my C&S blaster display case.

Cut mine out today. Did something wrong. I have a 3/8 gap on the back of the pack...hmmm.

A gap on the back? That's weird.
I got some heavier paper today and made 2 more of these. They both fit absolutely perfectly.
If your image program tries to "scale" the image for printing, don't let it. I printed both pieces at 100% and it worked great.

yeah, I was just doodling about. Things looked "Ok" until assembly tiem. next time i'll be a bit more dilligent in regards to print default and paper accurracy.

Hey SuperJedi! That looks great. I have only made a few on some fairly heavy matte art. I need some decent card. The distressing looks exactly right in the photos.

You do good art!!
I've actually made another 2 packs with some heavier paper. It's called "smooth Bristol" in the 100 lb weight. It's stiffer than the plain construction paper I used before, and it folds great!
I also slightly "adapted" your artwork by making the background a very subtle ivory shade, rather than pure white.
In the pics of the actual Boyards box, it appeared that it had an ivory tone to it. Not sure if that was due to age or not, but when I printed them out like this, it gave a subtle color difference between the white background, and the white lettering.

I didn't do any weathering/sanding on these two. I guess they're "As First Bought By" versions.



I tried to find some semi-glossy paper, like most real cigarette packs are made from, but couldn't find any in a decent weight. I thought about using semi-gloss photo paper, but I think that would be too flimsy.

Might want to try Card Stock that is gloss on one side.
I usually get the large sheets and cut them down to size.
Haven't been able to find it in 8.5x11.

The other option is to print on thin glossy and than glue it to card stock with Spray On 77.

You can get the 81/2" x 11" gloss cover at kinkos. The original seems matt to me though.

You know, Andy, I think you're right.
I guess I'm thinking more of modern packs.
I looked at those pics of that real Boyards pack again, and it looks more like a matte paper.

From RepDetect's pictures I am pretty convinced that the pack has a matt finish.

I'm planning to get out to the local craft store and see what card stock they have. I was thinking of trying to find an unbleached finish and then the white art would simply allow the card to shine through.

Your new boxes are looking great. What glue did you use to fix the edge?

Forget craft stores, see if you have a paper distributer that sells paper to offices and print shops. They can get you anything and will most likely give you large samples to see what you are interested in working with.

heres a useless bit of trivia for you regarding the actual size of the boyard cigarette. i read that your average smoke is roughly 8mm in diameter while the boyard is a whopping 10mm. just FYI for anyone who'd want to possible make their own similarly sized cigarettes.

I was cleaning out some files when I happened across the Deckard IDs I made for my collection. They're interpretations of what the ID would look like in 2019, rather than an attempt to recreate the actual prop. All the graphics were done from scratch using the Worldcon ID for reference, and the photo was done by compositing a picture of Decakard onto an LAPD police graduate photo. Enjoy.

Do you have a version of that without the Deckard data? I have been wanting to make an ID for cosplay. Of course, the photo would have to be different and so would the name and ID number. If you have .PSD files that would be ideal.

Unfortunately I can't seem to locate the layered PS files I used, but I did find some blank templants. I can always put together a fresh PS file if anyone needs one. Here are the blanks.

Stomp_Zeros for the B-26354 number and the warning on the rear.

STALKER1 was used for the name in the name slot on the front.

Luna Bar was used for the signature on the back, in all caps
