Been looking for a cheap version of Deckards briefcase and have been unable to find any Halliburton ones that were accurate,
I even think that there is a chance it is not a Halliburton afterall.
It appears that the prop dept pimped out even Decks case.

I havent been able to find any examples of a case like this anywhere.
Does anyone recognise this as a legit case?

Came across this on Ebay listed in aluminium briefcases and for $35
I had to grab it. Will post pics when it arrives full of what i think
would be in Deckards. Pic quality is poor, its off ebay.

Looks good but it's hard to get a feel for the scale.

The one i got measures 18"x13"x4", the same measurements as a Halliburton apart from the 4", the Halliburtons are 6"
Although i dont have the case in my hands, I do have a Braun deskfan to do a rough scale comparison and it seems ok.

From everything I had seen, it matches an older pre-80's, but after 1960 style Haliburton. The giva away to me was the style of insert folder which is pretty unique to the Haliburtons.

The original case is interesting because it looks like they have cut out the top from another case and placed it on top of an identicle case, only
slightly raised. Is this just another example of attention to detail or was there a retail version of this available?

well done mate ... those bad boys aint cheap! even the used and beat-up ones! i scoured the web for about 2 years with an arbitrary and unrealistic max for $100 - and it only took me 2 years to get mine. this was one of those props that got me more interested in the actual item so then the search took on a whole life of its own. i decided that i would likely not find Deck's exact model or could not afford it and i began searching for a Zero slim line. i try to use as many of my props as possible (i have the FLW Ennis tile tables, glasses, bottle, briefcase, working dazor, etc.) and decided the slim line would be easier for me to carry to work everyday and it houses all of my junk (most importantly my laptop) with out an inch to spare.

great thing about Halliburton is they have a lifetime warranty. i got mine for $80 - SHIPPED! but it needed new feet and a lock and the liner was shot, there was a big dent and the locking arm didn't hold it open. i sent it off hoping they might fix a few things for under a hundred bones ... they fixed EVERYTHING and added a new spine and even hammered out the dent. sent it to me overnight and didn't charge me a single PENNY. so i have a rebuilt Zero and while everyone at work calls me 007 - i have to laugh cuz if i try to say 'no, Deckard' - i just guess blank stares...

anyway - take a lot of pix when it arrives and congrats on that awesome deal!

here's mine:

Cheers photek, i hpoe mine looks as good as yours. Thats great PR for the Halliburton company, I wanted one but couldnt find one anywhere
near my price range.

Andy, the two pics at the top of the page show a second lid on top of the case. At first i thought it was a light distortion but after magnifying
and stareing at the image for about half an hour, i clearly see a second lid
or have it stared at it too long maybe?

I think I might be seeing what you are talking about now. The line along the left side of the top lid. I will have to look at the movie to see how it changes as the light changes, or the camera moves around it to have a better Idea. Interesting.

My Haliburton was a $45.00 buy and was in perfect condition (lucky me )...Tim is right, seems to me that they took another type of case and affixed a Haliburton side on top of it Confused ..anything is possible with those crazy prop people

forgot to mention our specs are fairly close Tim - the slimline is 18x13x3.
joberg ... $45? you got yourself quite the deal there for perfect condition!

could be that they used two different cases, but from what i can tell - its looks all Halliburton to me. the spine is there with locking open arm in the same position as well. of course many cases would likely have this - but it would be nice to see other shots of Deck's case. i remember seeing some other shots of his case a lot clearer. like promo shots though - not from the actual film.

not to hijack ... but has anyone identified the book under the case in the photo? from what i can see the title might be "Something Is Not Right" (not sure about the last word). i searched for a while now under vintage/ rare/ out of print etc. but nothing. figured it might have already been figured out ...

The only reason i came across it J was that i couldnt find a Halliburton anywhere that had the four raised lines on the lid end so sharply, if you know what i mean,
the Halliburtons taper off along the sides.
When the case arrives i might think about making a replica top and attaching it, does anyone have any better pics of the briefcase?

Great cool pics Tim Cool ...your model is different than the one I have (the closing mechanism is flush with the side; I should post a pic).

Here's a pic of mine; as you can see the closing mechanism is flush with the front of the case. I'm not a specialist in Haliburton and I'm sure that many designs were used over the years...in the movie we never see the front nor what type of handle the case is fitted with.

Thanks guys,
Mines a Halliburton knock off i think J, it wasnt listed as a Halliburton on ebay, probably why no one else bid and only has a "elite" badge on it.
Its a great knock off, only the case lid hinges are not the finest quality and the linings probably different.
