In between other projects for members I decided to tackle a
different gun. This one looked liked it would be a challenge
but not to big of one that I couldn't handle it. The base gun is
an airsoft that I picked up off of fleabay. I removed the barrel and
it all started there. The rest is all machined from aluminum
and I've made a few of the fasteners myself (not pictured here).
After this is done I might try and tackle the WASP from Avatar.
Let me know what you guys think. I need some constructive
criticism .

WOW! Very impressive start. Don't think I've ever seen one machined out of aluminum. This is one of my favorite blasters. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

*Gasp* Nice start, can't wait to see more! No criticism to add, the back end looks good. A few of the other replicas I've seen screw that shape up. If you can get the launcher nailed down you're on the way.

Thanks guys. There's a lot to go. I'm trying to keep the
adhesives to a minimum and stick to fasteners just
like a real gun. The barrel is longer from what I've seen
from other guns but that's OK , it makes it unique.

Holy WOW that's GREAT!

This is also one of my favorite blasters, & seeing it machined in metal is just ridiculously cool.

Geez Don Shocked Another great project and by the look of it another beautiful piece of work! As for the WASP from Avatar: good pix on the RPF...and one complicated gun to reproduce: good luck, you'll need it

Thanks again guys. I'll probably put it up on Ebay
after I'm done with it. I just wanted to see if I could
do it. I made a few more parts for it yesterday. There's
a lot of drilling and countersinking of the parts. I don't
want to drill or tap anything into the airsoft itself so I'm
having to find out ways to attach everything. I'm
not an engineer so I'm faking it but everything
is working out alright. It should be rock solid and heavy
when I'm done.

You might also want to get in touch with Matsuo. He's done some amazing replicas of this gun and might be willing and able to offer some advice, if you need it.

Thanks Joberg. The biggest thing with the Wasp I'm
trying to figure out now is scale. I also think (the more
I look at it) that there is no base gun. It looks to me
like the gun was totally custom made. The trigger doesn't
look like one on any other pistol I've scene and all the
pics I've looked at it doesn't even have a hammer,at
least on the outside of the gun. So anyway It should be
a fun build. I know there does seem to be a lot of
interest in the Wasp.

Lot's of interest for sure...I know that Matsuo didn't want to do it (I'm sure he'll explain his reasons). Scale is everything and you're right, it seems that it's a "stand alone" type of gun built for the movie.
According to the drawings on the Weta board, it's supposed to be a nine bullet barrel Shocked (impossible unless you want a barrel the size of a coke can )!! Another technical difficulty is the opening of the gun (central pivot top-break revolver: think Webley) to slide and replace the barrel...and I'm not talking about the other pieces attached to the gun itself (laser, sight, etc). You'll have to do (by hand) the plastic grips also.
Well, as you can see, lot's of fun Wink

Dont't want to contradict Joberg as that's true what the Weta site ssays , but the video of Cameron test firing the Wasp , shows him firing 6 shots and ditto in the film - I agree though it's a heavily customised gun and from the rumours on the RPF a fairly well known one at that , Matsuo's own website has some details on his bondo build up , but no further info on why he didn't finish.

Yep, I've seen the discussion on this pistol on the RPF
and there is a lot of speculation as to what gun it could be
but I'm not absolutely sure of the base gun. I have also
seen the vid of Cameron firing it but there was also some
discussion there on him faking the recoil and just shooting
blanks so is it just a blank shooter. I have no idea. I'll
have to check Matsuos' sight out though it sounds interesting.
I know he does great work.

All you have to do to correct your post is hit the edit button on the right hand side of your message, and if you are the last person to post, or look at it, it won't even say you corrected it. So if you change it quick enough, nobody will even know Wink

Again, maybe no base gun was used...any good gunsmith can do it himself...and since it will only shoot blanks, you don't need to engineer that weapon like a real one (sure, blanks have an amount of force/gases being displaced but, as we all know, not as much as a real live one).
As for Cameron, I think he's faking it for the "recoil"... Wink

I think your right Joberg. With the coin Cameron spends
on making his movies I don't think it would be anything
for him to have one made.
The clamshell is coming along nicely. I'm currently working
on the piece that angles down to the trigger guard. The only
thing I hate about making this is making both sides look the
same. The Blade Runner Blaster is different on each side
so it doesn't matter.

I've been working on a gripframe for another member
here so I've only spent a little time on this but here it
is as of now. I did manage to get the part that angles down
to the trigger guard done. All that is left is the remaining
filler pieces and sanding and finishing. I'm not sure
how I want to finish it. I think I may flat black it and then
steel wool the edges to weather it.
