Hello everyone!
I've been lurking around PS for quite some time and registered not too long ago. Everyone on PS is so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about all things BR & A L I E N (as I am big time!!!) so I've totally enjoyed reading thru TONS of your posts!

Figured it was time to post something myself, so...
This is my first prop. I had a really crappy resin PKD re-cast which I sold a few years back, so this is my first serious BR prop!

This is the newest version Offworld with the replacement metal slide featuring the proper Steyr proof marks...well except for the spelling mistake
Rolling Eyes
I was going for a Worldcon-ish used look on this....though leaving out any rust colors. Stripped the metal parts and repainted using automotive paints/acrylics (I added some pearl flakes on some apps), and a SEM color top coat, which is quite durable.

I'm really hoping to get a metal butt plate for this too. I know some of you have created them...and if anyone has an extra for an Offworld, please let me know! This one looks pretty real, but I really want to get some more weight on this!
I am working on .38 dummy ammo now and will post pics when that is finished. I'm using real casings and lead to give this prop some more heft.
I added a little lead under the grips as well.

A couple more pics at my flickr (I collect/ paint Japanese toys too...so that's what that's all about if you visit Smile
http://www.flickr.com/photos/nathanpt2000/

Thanks for checking it out and any criticism or comments!

Welcome REdYOdA.

Good to have you here. Really nice job on the Offworld, I have always said they can be made to look good, and you have proven that ten fold. Donparker is the guy to contact for the metal plates. His work is top notch.

Enjoy your stay,
Andy

Thanks Andy & Fred!!!
I totally agree...the Offworld's can be really great to customize. They are easy to dissembled and the new version is pretty damn close to the Worldcon in many respects. Pricepoint is tough to beat too!

Here's a shot I took of it broken down...some parts didn't make it in the shot though Confused

I wanted to get some posts under my belt before asking anyone for parts. If Don see's this post though...I'm interested if you have an extra!

Haha!

I knew someone here might be interested in those!

Had a hell of time tracking those down thru Yahoo Japan over almost a year!

They are 9" vinyl figures released by Marmit in 2008 and made in the classic 70's style of Japanese TV monster/Hero toys.
Limited to 100 pieces for the Alien, Kane, & Dallas. Ripley in the white Narcissus spacesuit & Lambert are rarer and I'm not sure on the numbers.

Helmets are removable.

EAT THIS!

Thanks Gaff87!

I loved shooting the Hot Toys Nostromo figures. There are a few other at my flickr. A couple with a Nostromo model I built too.

The Mural is just down the street from where I live here in San Francisco. Painted by 3 local artist. It's called 'Fear Head'. It's my favorite mural in a city with a ton of street art.

Hmm. I just received some .38 casings and lead to make dummy shells but...

the casings don't fit (just a little too big) argh! Mad
The .38 bullet lead goes in the chambers no problem though.

Does anyone know what caliber the new Offworld cylinders are?
I thought for sure that they were .38 caliber.

Nevermind.

Embarassed

They just needed some extra coaxing to get them in. A really tight fit though.

I couldn't get the lead into the casings the right way very easily so I took the 'easy' way out and inverted the bullet and just hammer tapped it into the case.

The bullets look like tubes of lipstick now Laughing But hey, it's a fictional gun right...who's to say it wouldn't have funny looking bullets.
These are the special Black Hole Gun particle rounds Wink

They do add some nice weight to the gun and it looks cool when the cylinder is popped out.

Hey, I really like the look of those "lipstick bullets" ! It makes sense to have variant heads on black hole ammo... good work !

BTW, thanks a lot for telling us where those A L I E N figures came from... There's a bagged Alien currently for sale now on eBay for more than 200 bucks... OOch !
(this to say : Good catch, these 70's inspired toys ! They really reminded me of the Kenner figures prototypes I saw in a magazine a few years ago)

Regarding your Hot Toys Dallas and Kane figures, did you know that Space Jockey has made a replacement head for Kane ? If you'd prefer to avoid the "In space, no one can hear Freddy Mercury scream" look on this figure, it could be useful... Look here :

Et voilĂ  !

Hey thanks Fred! I'm using the term 'Lipstick Bullets' for these!

There are actually real world flat tipped bullets called 'Wadcutters'. Flat tipped slugs cut perfectly round holes like a paper punch, they also pack allot of 'energy' on human targets. They look great in the blaster!

WOW! I can't tell you how long I searched ebay for a replacement head for Kane. I knew someone would produce one sooner or later...and the head by SpaceJockey is amazing! I usually display Kane sans Freddy Mercury head and go with the melted faceplate, but if he still has some available...I'd love to score one!

My Japanese vinyl figures are real treasures for me. Especially the Alien astronaut figures. Since '79 I've always dreamed of having cool action figures from Alien, especially in the spacesuits, and I was able to finally get them! I own the big vintage Kenner Alien and the Hot Toys Kane & Dallas are awesome...albeit a bit fragile. Plus these vinyls are the only way to have Lambert and Ripley in the white suit.

speaking of prototypes....this looks interesting....

Those rounds look a lot like some super match wadcutter bullets I've seen. It is not uncommon for real world bullets to look very much like that.

Great rebuild/refinish overall. Seeing these kinds of mods makes me want to buy an offworld just to have some fun with it.

Let me add another WELCOME TO THE BOARDS! to the thread as well.

Hi and welcome from me too , my only slight issue with the Offword as a 'good' model is the simple spelling mistakes on the upper receiver ( put their to avoid and I quote 'copyright issues' ) damm difficult to fix on a zinc die cast piece and the small size of the handle in relation to the rest, but other than that and the plastic parts which can be replaced, it's a good once to start with and what you've done is an example of what can be achieved , your wadcutters are a good idea .

Great build and a fantastic solution to the bullet problem. they look terrific and as everyone else has said, wadcutter supreme.

Propsjohnnyb also echo's my thoughts on the Offworld in general but looking at a build like yours, anyone can see that even with its faults an Offworld can be made to look simply terrific.

Thanks for sharing

Kind regards

MARK

Thanks Staar, propsjonnyb & Noeland!!

Yeah the spelling errors thing is too bad. I'm going to have to live with it and will not attempt a fix. Hopefully I will be able to get a Sidkit, Coyle, etc. one of these days...I'm always looking. Just can't spent that kind of dough right now.
I have a fair amount of painting and airbrush experience now, so the Offworld was the best way to cut my teeth on a more expensive prop weapon and see if I could achieve a decent looking gun.

Wanna see an ugly Blaster?

This frightful PKD was my first attempt about 8 years ago on a really poor re-cast...
Laughing

I gloss coated the crap out of the grips on the Offworld to try and get some more richness in the color. It worked a little. Also added some aging around the grip metal. I mixed High gloss & Low luster top coats and pearl flakes to get a metallic surface on the black metal parts.

I think I'm done, unless I can get that metal plate under the grip.

A friend's girlfriend was over yesterday and asked if it was a real gun...I'm happy!
Of course I said yes...

Welcome to the board Redyoda. I like what you've done to
your gun. I usually make butt plates to order, that way
I don't have them laying around Very Happy . If you want I could
probably make one for you . I've been working on another
members plate here as well and so it would be no hassle.
