Thought I would bump this up to the top. Rich is starting on this so get in on it now while supplies last. And if you act now you will also get a free order of French Fries. Just take your Backup Concept weapon to Mcdonalds and order a small fries. Pay them and there you go. Okay you have to pay for them so they are not free but don't french fries sound good right now. On second thought best leave the gun at home. |

So getting back to the gun itself. Is it gonna be the original handle or a new design??? |

That is the question of the hour...
I lean towards a new handle, the one I was going to use is a fat thing that does not fit the hand well and also would cause a large buldge in a pocket or boot, so in real life it would not be a good hide a way gun.
And it seems to have been done by you know who.

Looking at the pics found above I don't think anyone can claim creating the grip design we want to use except the original prop maker. Stephen Dane.
I think we are good. |

I actually had only read what was in this thread. Since you asked I went and looked at what had been added in the pit.
Can you simply make your own based on the early concept sketches???? That would take Sid out of the equation and everyone who signed up could still get their back up weapon.?????
Forgive me if I'm not getting it. But I know with your skill you could just scratch a grip like the original I would think.
Don't give up on this Rich. I think it would be an awesome prop.
Thanks

I think the best idea is for me to do another grip.
Like I said the one I was a little fat and would not really be a good idea as a hide a way gun.
See how many will go with a slimer and smaller grip.

That is of course gonna depend on how it looks. Everyone agreed to the prop based on the pics.
So if others interested could chime in that would be great.
I'll drop a note at the RPF thread.
For me personally I would need to see it before I could committ to it. I assume everyone else feels the same.
The thing for me was I really liked the look we were going for both in how it looked but also that it was based on the early blaster designs.
There was beautiful symmetry |

OK you know that Sid's old partner showed up or someone pentending to be him and both said he had done the sculp and also said go ahead...
(If not check in the pit...I end up there so offen I am thinking I will just post there all the time...)
I find it funny his first post and so far only posting was to hassle me over a handle...
So lets get a vote on this:
A) I own Sid nothing..
B) As Sid nor his old partner are making any they are free game
C) If we beleive the posted is Sid's old partner, then he has given his blessing, and in fact open all of Sid's models to being copied,
D) As Sid did indeed recast and sell againts me I should be free to
make and sell any of his old models I want..
I do not call it recasting as recasting is more towards ripping off a person making and selling models and you steal his model and compeat by selling againts him.
Feedback?

As far as what the "Partner" said it's fine. We have no way of knowing who this person is and the simple fact is the man (Sid) is no longer with us. Plus the "partner" said to go ahead. IMO it's time for everyone to move on. I'm still pretty new here but I think most would agree it's time.
There are several of these around and they are all copied off the original so I see nothing wrong with using what you have.
I really hope we can just get back to work. I understand Rich needs to defend himself and others want to chime in on the never ending re-casting debate but I for one just really really want the gun and this debate will go on forever.
I hope and personally think we should move ahead with the "backup weapon" as we planned. |

Ok found more discustion in the pit part of this thread and we have this in from Michele :
"there are no problems. Richard is a great proops makers. I don't want sell my proops here. I just ask he made with trust. Siderio was a great models maker, he said improve my props. So Rich Go On but give the honour also to the smaller people."
I said we will give credit for the grip to Sid, which is fair.
So we are a go again.
Thanks Michele.

Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait.
Did we ever settle on lights??
I wanted the tail grip light plus 1 red under the barrel and a shortened sight rod on the left with the green light at each end. I think this would tie it to the big blaster nicely. |

What??
I was planing on two firing LEDs firing thought the upper two barrels and perhaps a red firing LED to light up the plastic gap between the grip and the rear cap: over riding the normal blue glow when truned on and not firing.
I also plan on doing the rear cap in metal so it will reflect the red and blue LEDs...
Other colors are possable as will.
Conside that it is already fat for a hide out gun adding more to the side and you will end up with a Krobin Dallis Gun, totaly unbleiveable that he carries it any where on his body.

That sounds good. I'm just thowing out ideas. I'm gonna add the site rod to mine regardless but I think it can be tucked in against the barrell so it won't stick out on the side past the grip.
What you are planning sounds awesome.
I will need to get a site rod and green lights from you though Plus an extra red light to put under the barrel |

I don't think there is room for a sound board and speaker.

this is what I thought was coming too! And I liked that the original proposed handle looks like the drawings. Stick with it guys!!!

Well I started with what I hoped was someone else's handle, I guess I was wrong and it was Sid's..and I am willing to admit it is and give credit to Sid for it.
And we have permission from his old partner Michele so it is still a go.
So I will do it as planed.
Later I may offer a differnt handle.
