Wow that is fantastic ! you're definitely on the right track , I'm just amazed you could get that detail,
I don't know if you can overlay a static screen with an animation but that might be worth a try , did you get these from BR or the Aliens trilogy or make them up yourself? Just a point to mention Ridley Scott had a habit of re- using a lot of stock video footage whereever he needed to enhance a scene with technology, he like animated displays , adding ' life' to a seemingly bland items creating 'atmosphere'.
As many have pointed out almost all of the displays used in BR were taken from Aliens.
A coresponding set's needed for Rachel's and some sort of generic set for the main Question Run Video. |

Can overlay anything on anything really. Imagination and expertise with graphics is the limit.
These are from Blade Runner on the two small VK screens. Do these same two screens appear in Alien?
The two small screens look the same on Rachel's test from what I remember. I just need to figure a way of creating that swirling black blob. I thought it might work with a particle generator but I couldn't get anything close enough. |

Sure I can !
Here is what Neil / Gaff87 has posted on page 3 of THE CABINET OF CURIOSITIES :

(scroll down to this the pics)
I think the blob also appears on some Nostromo monitors from time to time... I'll check in my files tonight...

Damn, I just realized Gaff's discovery was on one of the ESPER screens, not the VK... Too bad !

Yes most of the displays were reused some where in the film , did you try to overlay my colour revolving graph on your background? , that might work if you can't greate the blob , from what I can gather they used an ossiloscope to generate the waveform , sorry I don't have one handy! |

Thanks Fred, I knew you could do it...btw, the Esper sequence is funny that way: on the VK's big screen you have the atmosphere chemical table of the Nostromo. On the right small screen you have the blob and the on the left small one, you have the same images as on the Esper screen |

I'm pretty sure there are digital osciloscope generators. There could quite possibly also be a plugin for After Effects to do it.
I'll wait for Alien on Bluray to get a better look.

Kurtyboy,
Fantastic work, mate! As for the blob that you created, my only critical comment is the clarity which at present seems a little too crisp and needs more fuzziness/feedback, though I'm sure you're aware.
Anyhow, these screens are magnificent! Can't wait for the final available version to put in my machine!
Best,
Nathan |

I can add any kind of fuzziness, blurring, noise etc. no problem.

I think most of the fuzziness comes from the monitor being a bit old, or the connection not being clean. The whole thing looks a bit fuzzy.

The resolution would also be a lot lower. I can do that too.

Another nitypicky thing to add is that the right mini monitor in particular in the film has a slight vertical distortion kinda like microfiche wherebythe rows appear a little wonky. No doubt this is due to a dodgy feed, but it does help make it more Kafka-esque. That would be cool to nail as well I think.... Hopefully this makes sense!

It also looks like it might be trying to follow the pupil, maybe tracking the eye to keep it centered, and to check for aversion, a sign someone is lying.
