It's been such a long journey for me on this project. I cannot believe that I have finally finished it, and realized my re-envisioning of Sebastian's Chess Set. It has been my passion for about three years now and I feel a catharsis now that it is complete. In a few days I will post information in the Prop Shop about the limited number of "crated" sets and tables that I will make available. As is common with me, none of these items are film accurate. They are my Blade Runner inspired creations - sculpted and built from scratch. I hope you like them.

...seems to me you can pretty well put "screen accurate" to bed on this creation...a truly magnificent project Rick....the first question most of us will have after viewing is...... "where (and when) can I get MINE?".....
as lovely as the individual chess pieces may be...the table and packing crate are INSPIRED......

Looks close enough to be screen accurate in my book...most of all: it's BR accurate  . Where do I begin?
1) I would buy it just for the box.
2) Details are incredible and the birds look great.
3) The board is simple because the pieces on top are intricate.

This is Rick Ross's chess set. I don't have a 'light-table' yet.... got them displayed on a wooden chess board for now with an acrylic plexiglas "dust cover".... The chess pieces are set up on the board as per the famous 'Immortal Game' and similarly as in the movie Blade Runner chess game... but I have them set-up at about five moves before 'checkmate' so there appears to be more pieces on the board.

Mine still is in its crate and will remain here until I get the Rick's lighted chess board... and also because I LOVE that crate, it's simply amazingly detailed !!!

Yeh, thanks..... me too thinks they look cool. Rick Ross did a great job, very detailed. The wood crate is great... agree! a piece worthy to display and behold also. Hmmm... a lighted chess board, one day.

Dust proof? Bah! Humbug! Rick's version of Sebastian's chess set is something that should be displayed and perhaps even USED as a chess set should be; on a real chess board - not something to be displayed under a Plexiglas cover! But that's just my opinion. I do like the board you've chosen cratercritter; it's very ornate and classy.
Here's my work in progress of a lighted chess board. I used Rick's pictures of his original board design to create mine. Of course he then expanded his original board design into the awesomeness that is his full lighted table creation, but that's way beyond what I am able to accomplish. I just wanted to build something that was close to his original basic design, and I think I'm on the right path. See what you think:
Sorry the red side is so dark, I didn't have anything to do fill lighting with at the time. I just have the top part of the table built so far. It's an oak frame and the chess board itself is a piece of 1/4" tempered frosted glass that I applied contact paper to, cut out the checkerboard pattern and then painted with candy red enamel. The squares didn't turn out quite as crisp and clean as I was hoping but I think it looks pretty decent. The paint is applied to the frosted side which is underneath and the unfrosted side is the top of the board, which accounts for the reflections you can see of the chess pieces. The frame is sitting on top of another piece of frosted glass (the company I bought the glass from messed up and cut two pieces - since they had no use for the second piece they gave it to me for free- score!) and the whole thing is sitting on top of a box with two picture lights underneath.
The plan is to have the middle section of the table taper down to a smaller base section that will hold a single lighting fixture that will be sufficient to light the board - as it is in the pictures the board is being lit with 60 watts, and it is probably more than is necessary.
