LED umbrella. It looks hawt in the picture. Hopefully it will work as advertised. It's the most I've paid for an umbrella, but it's so worth it.
I will take pictures with it in Downtown LA once I get it. I'll also carry it with me in the lightsabre-light parade at Comic Con on Preview Night. I have to be different, don't I... _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

I'll do better...I'll post pictures. And I'll be taking the pix in Downtown LA. At night. Near a couple of BR sites. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

I own one myself. They are not bad for the price. I purchased mine from Lightech Industries (lightsabers) on Ebay. He goes by Viperforce on the RPF I believe. He must be a reseller and not the manufacturer.
You may wish to frost the rod however to disburse more light. The rod basically has facets on the inside to catch the light traveling up the shaft from the LED. It looks a little better in photos than real life. It should be plenty bright however.
Hope you like it. Let us know.

They look AWESOME. I don't have pics, but my friend Ryan picked one up, and it's amazing in person. _________________ I don't have enough blasters! |

3 LEDs. Nice. I rewatched BR tonight and actually they aren't too far removed from the real thing. Ingenious use of fiber optics to conduct the light...I figured there would be a mirror on the top to reflect the light back down ala a Luxeon-style lightsabre.
Wouldn't be a good idea for a sabre blade, however, because the fibers wouldn't last very long under punishment. Heh, then again those Master Replicas sabres don't last very long under punishment thanks to those LED strings. I had to laugh to myself after a kendo club whacked around all day with MR sabres at the Cinemax event staged at Santa Monica Promenade. None of the MR sabres lasted the day...all had gappy blades or worse. Totally broke me of any desire to have a MR of my own. Could that be why they're losing the Lucasfilm account, hmm?
Thanks for the links. The red one is going to be available in 3 weeks through ThinkGeek. Don't know if they are going to pick up on the blue. That one's pretty neat too. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

I thought y'all might like to hear what the webmaster thought of some of the comments on the site, courtesy of Google language tools...
Quote: | The product which it sees excepts defectiveness initially and a/s is difficult. I think the sushi noodle guy translation of that would be a bit like "This umbrella is not for bad weather, it's for show. Don't expect it to work afterwards if you actually get it wet, k thx bai." _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

It has arrived. It looks bitchen. Going to take pix of it tonight out behind the apartment building, and Downtown LA shoot is going to be soon. I'll also take the thing with me to San Diego Comic-Con.
The embedded fiber optics are very noticeable at close quarters. However, the umbrella looks like the genuine article at arm's length. Everything is self-contained, with a straight handle that has a strap hanging off of it.
I will try to put up pix tonight, or tomorrow morning at the latest. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

Here are a few pictures in the alley behind my apartment building.

The next photos you will see of this will have been taken in Downtown LA. I'm impressed. This is cool. There are also red LED umbrellas on the way from ThinkGeek, but the white light one looks so much like the ones in the movie it's amazing. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Drat...I got hideously sunburnt today so I will likely hold off on the photo safari in Downtown LA until this fades. This might take a while. Sorry. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

Below is my umbrella. Got it a few months ago and I'm very happy with it, especially for the price. I thought about trying to slide the canopy up so it would lengthen the rod below and then add a new top cap so the light is not visible at the top. I think I may also frost the rod so the fibers are diffused.

Frosting the rod would be a good idea. What do you use for that? Or do you just get out the sandpaper and sand?
I dunno, I like the light extending all the way through to the top. It isn't 100% screen accurate that way, but 95% is fine by me. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

I got a green umbrella from Lightech Industries on Ebay ($24.95) at the end of 2006
I was supposed to take some photos some time ago but this thread made me remember it and now it's done
Pictures (large ones) can be found at http://www.tyrell-corporation.pp.se/temp/umbrella _________________ Nicklas Ingels / Los Angeles, 2019 Webmaster

That one's really, really nice. I think it's probably identical to what I have, except mine's black with a white LED/Fiber Optic shaft. ThinkGeek is only selling the black ones and the red ones. Green's nice, though. So is blue, which I've only seen on the Korean site that had all the details and pictures. _________________ Sushi, that's what she called me. Cold fish. |

I recieved my white LED umbrella today, and Im very pleased. As mentioned earlier I would concider painting the top black, and perhaps add some silver paint or reflective material at the end to make the light bounce back in the tube, I don't think it would make a drastic difference to the light strength but after directing the top against a mirror I saw some slight increase. |

I can get an orange one or a red one but of course I want the black and blue. I think Im screwed. _________________ The other Karl! |
