You're welcome JB, glad to see you're still enjoying this topic !

Cool

As I already told you, all the areas and props of the station were stuffed with graphic elements...
Among them the screens, of course. They're very important in the film since they provide all kind of data on the prisoners and their location in the station.

Here are 2 WIP screens. The visuals that made it on-screen were very close :

More interesting, food packagings ! Many of them were discarded... Too bad because they were pretty good ! The trays were supposed to be used by the guardians at some point, but since these scenes were cut from the film...

Coming next : Medical props !

Thank you again mates for the kind words !

OK, time for a new post...

Because the film was made on a tight budget, they had to use found items more than they would have initially wanted... but they found really interesting stuff, like those 2 props that were used in the infirmary scenes : A rather strange operation table and a surgery lamp that echoed in an interesting way the shape of the space station...

Of course, same rule applied for the small props displayed around in the infirmary, like this very impressive syringe used by evil scientist Elisa B ! (the yellow liquid improves the visual impact of this prop on screen a lot... You can't avoid to look at it thinking "Oh no, not the yellow thing again !!!)

Laughing

Fred

PS : I think a similar syringe was used in the latest HULK movie (didn't see it... Not tempted at all)

Cool props for sure (woudn't mind having that table Shocked ) As for the hypodermique...(as in Hypo=horse), it's primary use is for animals and not humans ...but it surely makes a good prop visually speaking.
TSF sharing those great pics with us Fred!

Yes, I remember now, you're right JB, they were syringes made for use on animals... Logical when you think Elisa B. treated the prisoners aboard Dante 01 like Guinea pigs !

Shocked

I found these syringes so creepy that I managed to secure the two they used on the film... and the suitcase they use to carry them aswell !

Another type of syringe was used for mechanical effects, when they take blood samples from the prisoners...

Very different from the one already posted above... nastier also... Look at that size !!!

Shocked

Fred

Next post : The crew's cabins.

Don't know JB... and you know what ? I don't want to know actually what they used as a basis for that syringe, it's simply too scary to look at !

Shocked

OK, as promised, a post about the cabins used by the crew of space station Dante 01... They played a pivotal role in the film because that's where little secrets about some characters could be unveiled for the audience...

As you can see, Marc Caro had to lower his expectations when the over detailed and realistic concept sketches became rather naked and dull real sets...
(I mean, ONE set where all the cabin scenes were filmed)
By changing camera angles and light he managed to give these scenes an interesting look and atmosphere, but once again definitely not the ones he had in mind when designing this project...

Fred

Yes, I hear you Fred; it's up to the Director and his best friend (D.P.) to find a way to lit and shot the same set over and over again using tricks of the trade and make the audience believe that they had a big budget for sets and props Wink

Your right JP, directors of photography usually have a pivotal role in the look of a film, and this one was no exception !

More distractions! Will it never end? . . . LOVE IT!

Now I must carve my way through this as well . . . So humbling.

Thanks David for the super-kind comment !

Cool

OK, this time I'll share photos of the spacesuit seen at the very end of the film... The original design was very interesting, most notably its angular helmet that closely matched the angular esthetic developped for the space station.

Too bad it was partly constructed by a prop guy (don't remember his name) who had previously worked with Michel Gondry and screwed up everything !!!

The end result on screen is not that bad, thanks to Marc Caro and his director of photography who once again saved the day...

Fred

Love the illustration. As you say Fred, the realisation is not quite living up to the concept art. Looks like it's been simplified to be easier to make.

Yep... If at least it could have been more detailed... Surface detail on and inisde the helmet and a little weathering here and there would have sold the costume me think... Oh well...

Glad to know you like the illustration, Colin ! It's from the costume designers who worked on the film, Chattoune & Fab !

Their site is located here :

ENJOY !
