I think you are right John, there is a lot of symmetry on it, I can just barely see the back side in the reference I have. I may see If I can contact someone who was in the film, I do have "Montones" contact info, I wonder if he would have some shots or memorabilia? _________________ ______________________________________

It's the original model that was later restored by Martin Bower !

That is a great picture. I am running it through a photoshop program (the gimp) and comparing it to some grabs off of the film. I am just making sure the proportion is not squished or anything. The cross section is critical here... _________________ ______________________________________

FenGiddel86, glad to see you liked the comparison.. Would really want to see a scale comparison sketch of the 2 ships side to side one of these days !

Good grief! you guys are killing me! If I ever finish my Nostromo I guess I know what my next sketchup model will be!
Another awesome ship.
Does anyone know what the "official" dimensions were for this ship?

I always imagined that the thing descended to the cargo off-load area seen in the film where the bays we see on the shuttle's flanks would be laterally unloaded/loaded. With a ship this big, cranes and forklifts would take an eternity.
|
It makes sense what you say here !
My theory is that the shuttle could "unload itself" like a Skycrane, see what I mean ? Since the shuttle was designed like an actual Skycrane helicopter (a huge cargo area under a craft supplied with heavy engine(s) and four "cardinal landing gears"), it would be logical for it to have a similar way to upload / unload itself...
Fred
BTW, I took the photos of the Skycrane here : http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/bill_spidle3/ch-54a_68-18437/ |
Loved the SkyCrane, and this Shuttle. Looking at the photos though I doubt it could separate. The Crane and Outland's shuttle have inspired several models of my own including these...

The guys at www.fantastic-plastic.com are currently working on a model kit of the Con-AM 27 shuttle that promises to be awesome !
For those interested you can contact them via email or their Facebook and ask to be put on their interest list... (price should be around 150$)

I definitely understand your point JB but from what I saw the scale of this one will be very close to the Halcyon Nostromo released years ago... Could be interesting to put them side to side for comparison once built ! _________________ THE FUTURE IS A THING OF THE PAST |

Since my last post the kit was finally released... the bad news is that a friend of mine, who's a very talented and experienced model maker, told me to stay away from it, as he's already had some bad experiences with MMI (Millennium Models International) in the past. The recurring problems with these kits are, from what he told me, the bad castings full of bubbles and the fact that many pieces don't fit well when you start to assemble them...
Anyhow I love the original Box Art by Brad Fraunfe so I'll put it here :
Not bad, hu ?

TFS with us Fred...Yeah, MMI are known to have "hold-on-to-your-socks" models that you'll have to mod to death so as for the pieces to fit properly
Oh, well, for the experienced model-maker |
