I have an idea to make a vid phone metal case to go with Whitefall's Vid Phon face plate. I am looking for images of the props. I once saw a DVD from Japan that supposedly had resources on it. Any info would be great.

thank you,
Andy

here is one I got a while ago...

This photo is from Richard Coyle racprops.com

Here ya go-
http://www.nickderington.com/Images/brpost/vidphonreport/

There was a seller on ebay that was selling this booklet and CD. On it were the complete documentation of the BR Vidphon!

I sadly didn't buy one, BUT the seller scanned in just about everypage of the incredibly informative booklet. You pretty much have all the info you'd need to build your own accurate Vidphon.

Yup, that be the stuff I was looking for. It confirms my find of the sketchbook graphics used for the graffiti stickers. I guess I can share my idea. I probably should wait till I am finished, but I don't care if anybody else tries it too. I am going to try and build the case out of foam core and cover it with Stainless steel contact paper. I can then beat it up with a hammer and give it a dark wash. Then I can apply graffiti with the stickers printed onto colored paper, and also with a sharpie marker. More stuff to come after I start building. I am hoping it will end up costing less than $100.

Thank you Nick. You are the "best there is" man. Very Happy

Nick, that is fantastic stuff!!! While I have no urge to build one, I love the resource that you provided.

Andy, I smell a progress thread when you are making this. That way we can all drool while you finish one of the coolest props out there!!!

Thank you so very much for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom

Jeez!

This has to stop!

I just scored piece of heavy 8" diameter PVC for watermains and poured a 15lb slab of urethane foam to sculpt out the vid-phone case. So much for blowing you guys away!

my biggest concern was the graffitti stickers and was planning to do an extra case to bribe Whitefall...

Don't give up yet Rick, I haven't even started yet. If you don't have the sketchbook LMK and I can send you the pages from the book that have the sticker art.

If we wanted, we could get it built up in cad and machined easily. It would be easy to cast from that point. Im interested. Id like to see what everyone comes up with for mesurements.

Jusrt a thought.

How tall do you think this thing is? I keep thinking it is about the length of a current day pay phone... any ideas?

I was going to make my first one the size of Whitefalls face plate about 2 1/2 feet. My guess measurements have it coming up at around 2 feet even, maybe even less. I am hoping once I have some stuff to work with I will eye ball the rest. Too bad the vid phon report didn't have any measurements, which I am surprised by.

2 Feet seems a little short when you look at Harrison standing next to the thing in some of those pictures... I will take another look at it, you may be right...

well ,when its done will anybody be posting how tos...I know Whitefall sells the panels so that saves that time, but some of us are a little short on tools and tech...
I was thinkin if ya used a real screen and fed a loop of images through a cheap vcr/dvd player it would make a great lamp or ...possabilities are endless!

I'm going over to my studio office this PM and look at Whitefall's Vid piece.

It's in the 30" range. I recall thinking it a bit large but, when one looks at rachel on the screen portion, it seems correct. Any smaller would seem odd.

Well duh!

Here is a image I believe Whitefall sent me!

GOOD LORD!!!!!!

How cool is this thread? YEAH, it's that cool.

I love this place.

I think you should both build them! Have a vidphone build off, post progress pictures and lets see how they end up. Twisted Evil

I am not planning on mine being all too realistic...at least not close up. I am looking for a quick, cheap and hopefully better looking than the materials would suggest. In the end I hope to end up with a cool lamp. Of course I will try and make different versions down the road. I am working with limited space and tools. I will of course post progress pics and templates when done. I think everybody will have one soon enough. Rick of course should have the coolest one Wink

I would like to get mine as close a possible... I could really use some great references if anyone has them. Ideally I would like to nail down an accurate size for the case, then start to go to town on this little project.

Not a big deal, just wanting to work on something fun.

Smile
