It wasn't me but I bid on it too. I will tell you though, just because they won it for 1$ more than you doesn't mean they only bid that much more than you. They very well could have bid a $100 more, but since you were second highest bidder the final was only a $1 more. I missed out on so many things for only a buck so many times from snipers it ain't funny, and that is with me trying to snipe too. Snipers don't have time to go back and bid again if it isn't a high enough bid, so they bid top dollar in their one and only bid. That is why when I bid, I try to figure out where I will draw a line with myself for my top bid, and bid it only once myself. if it goes over that, and I lose oh well. At least I made the sniper, or whomever pay that much more for it. Still I also don't want it to be such a high bid that the object attracts a lot of speculators in it too.
This calculator has also been a highly sought after item, mostly because of Star Wars prop makers, because it is also used in Boba Fett's costume. So there is a very good chance the other bidder is not from here. Not to mention it is even more desirable by calculator collectors now, because it is becoming more rare every day as they are disassembled to be used in props. Like the Graflex flash unit before it, photography buffs are trying to preserve them for what they were, before they were hunted into extinction by SW fans. I saw the same thing happen with the Weaver scopes. It was gun collectors winning a lot of them. And then, there is that issue with speculators I mentioned before.

I feel your pain also Jameth; one of my friend was complaining that it's getting difficult to get vintage cars in a movie these days (thanks God for groups collecting them)...most of them are snatched to make Hot Rods, LowRiders with chop tops and the likes. Not really vintage anymore As for the MQ-1 and other items dear to the prop community, there'll always be speculators and that's the game I'm afraid |
