OK guys - sorry for the long wait, here's part one...
Helmet - Basic Construction
Heavy vacuum-formed plastic as for the other parts.
Yeah - I know the pictures are awful quality
The left and right halves of the helmet are attached with machine screws along the bottom edge to a heavy cast resin neckring 12 3/4" in diameter and 1 1/4" deep. Each half includes part of the "mohawk" ridge at the top/back but this is covered with a separate mohawk piece over the top which is firmly glued and holds the two halves together. A cap detail is glued to the front of the mohawk to hide the seams. This has a "sunrise" detail moulded in and it seems that the master part for this piece was made using the BACK of one of the "ventilator" rings shown earlier.
A textured plastic plate covers the front seam below the visor aperture, while at the rear seam a larger square piece of the same textured plastic is held in place by 4 bolt details (see pic). The machine screws holding the neck ring in place are covered by domed screw covers as on the backpack.
The neckring - note the four rectangular details set into the inner face. These are magnets taken from ordinary magnetic door catches and they lock the helmet onto the metal neckring on the suit.
Textured plate at rear, held on by 4 bolts. These have been turned into "details" with the addition of plastic tubing and nylon washers.
Just above the plate is another pvc tank connector, this one used to connect the airhose from the backpack. This was held in place at each end with a simple jubilee clip.
More later!
Tony

Gold dust!
I don't know how many times over the years I've looked at that sunrise thing and wondered what it was. And now I have one in my hand, it's so obvious! (I only just got them a few days ago though, so that's my excuse.)
Part 2 please! _________________ Mike

Thanks for those precious photos...seems to be vacu ABS. It seems that almost everything on that helmet is vacu-formed (even the hose holders) |

Thanks Fred (congrats on that 1981th post )...seems to me that they used the Nostromo floor for those panels behind Sean |

A screenused (but incomplete, the gloves and boots are missing) suit will be auctioned by Profiles in History later this month :

I've been looking forward to it since it was announced last year. There was a review on blu-ray.com - apparently it's a good transfer. Finally!
I plan to hold onto the old DVD in case I have unwanted guests and need a legal form of torture... |

No joy in Canada - we didn't get the Outland blu-ray, or the others released by the studio July 10th (Altered States, etc). Apparently we won't get it until the 17th. |

Found this pic recently somewhere on the Web... Never had seen it before, that's why I share it here, pics of the red suits are rather rare !
Looking at the proportions of the image and the way it's framed, I guess it could be a slide from the original Ladd Company press kit...

TFS Fred...good lookin' pic for sure...and let's not forget the famous "grills"(on the walkway and at the right hand side of the pic) that they used for many sets during that period |

I'm looking to reproduce the suits worn by the salvage crew in Aliens, and of course it has led me back to Outland.
Has anyone ever reproduced the vacuformed piece used to connect the backpack straps on the front of this costume? I'm talking about the "two arrows bumping into each other" shaped bit.
I was really hoping this would turn out to be a "found item" but no luck. |

Nope, not a found item I'm afraid...was made for the movie; shouldn't be too difficult to repro. |
