|
|
I love the many displays of BR glassware that members have been sharing in photos... the Safex ashtrays, Bryant's shot glasses, the De Czars, the Tsing-Tao glasses, O-B's terrific JWB Bottle, and of course those distinctive, angular Cibi glasses.
I especially like the look of the Cibi when it's displayed with JWB in it, as if Deckard has just poured himself a stiff one. But as many have sadly noted, whiskey just doesn't stay in a Cibi for long. Nobody wants to see it go to waste, evaporating before one's very eyes, so a few collectors will carefully pour the whiskey back into the bottle, while others will enjoy a belt or two -- a rare opportunity for a collector to consume his collection instead of the other way around.
Still, it would be nice to have a Cibi glass that held whiskey perpetually without needing to be refilled.
Many of you have no doubt thought of using clear, colored resin to achieve this effect. I did, too.
But then it occurred to me that I live in Japan, where almost every restaurant features realistic plastic samples of its dishes by the door. There is a whole section of town where the companies that make these samples are located. Rather than trying to do it myself, why not bring in the pros? I figured I'd get much better results turning the job over to a company that specializes in doing this very thing. If I provided them with a sample of JWB, they'd be able to match the color perfectly.
The results are in and I'm very pleased. For reference, the JWB Bottle in the background is filled with real JWB.
What do you think?
Thanks, Pilot! _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

The real question is...can they do a clear liquid with a swirl of red? ala the shotglass with Tsing Tao and drop of blood backwash.

Very cool indeed.
One of my old girlfriends used to have a brandy snifter, that was hollow cast inside and had brandy in between two glass walls, while the glass itself was empty. since there was air space all the way up to the rim of the glass, it would actually slosh around when you moved the glass. _________________

yeah they got the color spot on in that. If the glasses weren't $70 a pop I'd have to consider it. _________________

Thanks for the great response, everybody! I'm really pleased with the way this came out, particularly the perfect color match. I suppose this "plastic food sample" company has been replicating edibles for almost 60 years, so it's no wonder they did a much, much better job than I could have! _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... I think with a clear screenshot as a reference, they could do a bloody backwash.
Actually, I'm thinking that, if I could get my hands on a good replica of the Taffy Lewis "Margarita" glass, I could have a drink made with a little "worm" in it. What is that thing, anyway? _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

Thanks for letting me know. I thought about posting the pics first and the text later, so that the glass on its side would be more of a surprise. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |

I had something like that too, once! It was a clear tumbler with a double wall and colored liquid between the walls. The inside of the tumbler itself was empty, but looked full when the glass was held upright. There was a narrow metal rim around the mouth of the glass, and when the tumbler was tilted (as if drinking), gravity would draw all of the liquid to the lip of the glass, where it was hidden by the metal rim. Of course, the actual amount of liquid was very small, little enough to be hidden completely by that rim. It looked as though a glass that was completely full had been emptied. When you turned the tumbler right side up, the liquid would reappear. _________________ "Your old titles mean nothing here... Captain!" |
