This is a long overdue update on a prop I've practically obsessed over for decades. Thank you to Stephen210 for all of his help in getting this piece to where it is now. Also Harry Harris, who has shared invaluable reference over the years, and of course the incomparable Mr. Bob Burns.

This a pic of my "Dallas" version of the pistol. It had several minor and not so minor differences from the "Kane" version, some of which I can demonstrate some for you with this still-a-work-in-progress visual.

It's dust cover is in the open position, which gives you view of it's internal parts. It also has a charging handle. The "Kane" has a closed cover and no charging handle. The barrel is also much fatter on this version. This casting looks a little strange because I rotocast the body with a white resin but solid poured it with a black variant, which is visible in certain areas (as an aside, I have finally found an excellent resin from smooth-on that will allow me to offer black castings from now on. It's got a slower cure time, so I can still rotocast with it, and it's a lot less brittle than previous versions)

This rexim is the one I've been trying for all along. It's the correct size, and has separate pistol grips that were cast off an original pair of rexim grips. The top scope and mount you see here are metal, but I am molding it up in two pieces for pratical reasons.

Thanks for looking. More pics next week!

Shawn

I quite like it in the black and White!

But I look forward to seeing it painted up too.

Wow! That's so cool looking.
I have one of your previous generation Nostromo pistols and I thought that was awesome. This one definitely takes things up a notch.

If you're going to offer kits, is it possible to supply the pistol grip panels as separate pieces? That was the trickiest part to paint for me.
Individual grips would make painting a snap.

Thanks, everyone. And yes, while it's not evident from the pics, the pistol grips *are* separate. I just laid that one down on the pistol for the photo. There are also holes in the frame on both sides to line up where the grips are to sit, and you can screw them down in place.

That is incredible work Shawn!

Now that I've ordered a Nostromo Space Suit from Richie & Steve I ought to grab one of these from you to complete it - not sure if it would get past UK customs though.

Shawn,

My jaw just hit the floor.

I have one of your last versions too. Absolutely love it. But I really want to pick up one of these new "Dallas" versions.

When will they be available?

Ted.

Harry, to date, I've not had any problems with shipping either nostromo pistols or the storm trooper version of the same prop to the UK. I'm sure we can work something out.

Thank you, Ted. I am currently producing parts for kits, and with luck may be able to begin offering them by the end of the week!

Shawn -

Been a while. I purchased a Mead Blaster from you some time ago. Still a favorite in my collection. I think at the time you were working on the Kane version, as well as a similar Star Wars StormTrooper variant.

I look forward to this release. As always, great work! - R13

OUCH! MY jaw just hit the keyboard again.

Absolutely gorgeous, Karl. The only thing that could have improved it was placing it next to the helmet.

Shawn, looking very much forward to the sales note.

I've finally got some news on the new nostromo pistol. Here's the very first "Dallas" version of the rexim-favor. While the main pistol is the same (and an all new build that is as close to an original as I could make it), it does have several different aspects in comparison to the "Kane" version, which I'll recap quickly:

The paint job is un-altered from the original pieces, as there is no bronze overspray and no lettering on the right side. The dust cover is in the open position (exposing the bolt and spring) and the charging handle is present. The main step-down barrel is much wider and slightly shorter, and the scope rings are also different.

The biggest overall improvement of course was the addition of actual rexim grip castings, courtesy of the owner of a real rexim. The complex curves and lines of these pieces was simply beyond my skills at this point and having the grips allowed me to completely nail the rest of the dimensions to make this version (my last) as accurate as possible.

The scope, while not the exact version used, is actually a casting of two similiar scopes that were cut down to make one scope of the desired length since the off the shelf Tasco scopes I previously used were 3/4" too short. The screws used are also slightly different from the original slot headed screws for practical reasons as they're more easily available and slightly more futuristic. The forward section of the scope has been molded with the rings attached, and the rear section cemented to it inside the rear ring. The new "Kane" version features the same kind of set up.

I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out, and it marks the end of a journey I began many years ago when I first saw this prop on the cover of Starlog back in 1979.

Thanks for looking!

Shawn
