That sheep looks evil (must be the eyes Shocked )...one of these days you'll have to produce a run of some of those covers Wink

Yes. That's the plan, but I hope to get more feedback, before I proceed. Aside from the obvious thought of producing prop magazines, posters are a possibility.

As you know, along with the more pedestrian magazine covers, a couple were created with a more adult slant.

Once again, I wanted to stay as loyal to the original compositions as possible, using them as a guide to build all of my "updates".

Here is a kind of transition, showing the covers overlaid and side-by-side, with the original as a starting point. Obviously, since it was based on a sketch, probably no photos exist that so closely resemble the figure on the cover (although it would be interesting if any such reference surfaced). Some license was taken with the background and the misspellings were corrected. A combination of extensive retouching and illustration, I tried to create a reasonable match.

The blue advertising band is an add-on. - R13

And so the search continues -

Some of you may be aware of this magazine, having seen it on the convention reel made in 1982 to promote the movie's release. It was only onscreen for a brief moment, but is one of the most (if not THE most) rare of the cover designs. I do not recall it being shown anywhere else -

If anyone can shed any light on the complete cover, I would like to include it in my updates.

Thanks! - R13

It was after I'd begun my first attempts at rebuilding the covers using scans of Southwell's art that I first ran across this. By the time I started over doing my own "updates", I had filed it away to be forgotten, and only stumbled across it again last week.

I'd love to include it, but wish I had more image to go on. Some may recall that about 5 years ago a original "copy" of the cover for ZORD was auctioned on eBay. I don't recall the seller or what it went for, but at the time I was amazed to see it - obviously, great hi-rez reference that had been hard to come by prior to the listing.

With Karl Tate's discovery of the hero blaster at WorldCon - along with several other pieces, I wonder what else is "out there"(?)

Apparently there is now an actual online "FASH" magazine . . .

The Hunt continues - R13

Assuming these are Japanese characters, is there anyone out there who might be able and willing to identify these atop the FASH Magazine?

I can attempt it, but in my ignorance, no doubt my efforts will fall short . . .

I know the image is fuzzy, but - any help? - R13

Simple answer - Yes.

At present, I am "testing the water". As you can see, I've posted several teasers.

Glad you like the efforts. I was frustrated by the rough scans I'd found online. So I started this as a way to supplement my own collection. As a graphic artist, I then decided to update them and do my own creates, re-illustrating the main graphics and refining the look, using today's tools.

My thought is to offer lower quality (low-rez) files here, or have nicer "dust jacket" type sleeves printed either traditionally or digitally and offer them as a set - once I complete all the covers and corresponding ads.

I know it takes time to be discovered here, but I am hoping to get more feedback before I incur any costs.

I welcome any thoughts on the designs and regarding my plan.

AND if you have any leads on the last cover (FASH), please let me know.

More to come. Thanks. Have a better one! - R13

TO MOCK A KILLING . . .

As I mentioned earlier, using a variety of reference, including the poster from "The Doberman Gang", I've re-illustrated the image of the snarling dog for KILL. I tried to stay as close to the original look and composition as possible, although I DID add some splattering texture and an extra spike on his/her collar, but it's a close match -

I've only just seen this thread and I'm blown away with what you're doing here mate.

Strangely enough, I had thought to do something similar a few years back but in all honesty, your efforts and top-drawer skills render anything I might have attempted totally unnecessary..

I'll be watching this with great interest.

Bravo and congratulations

Highest regards
