Although I thought it might never happen, Edward James Olmos is scheduled to be the guest of Comicon this weekend. As Gaff is to be arriving in KC for today's Comicon, I thought a welcome sign was in order . . .

I offer this cover that neverwas as perhaps a more acceptable replacement for a recent behind-the-scenes discovery, since that too "neverwas" a true Blade Runner prop.

Most here know that before the role of Deckard was given to Harrison Ford, several known actors were considered for that part, from Robert Mitchum and Gene Hackman to Paul Newman and even Men In Black's Tommy Lee Jones. One actor in the running was Dustin Hoffman whose likeness even influenced a couple of Mentor Huebner's wonderful pre-production drawings.

The Hospital Scene - Mentor Huebner

But Hoffman left - parting after a disagreement developed over the direction Deckard's character should take. Supposedly at that point Deckard was moving toward being more of a bespeckled bureaucrat than the detective we now know him to be.

And although I am a fan of his earlier work, what a different movie than would have been.

But neverwas . . .

Meanwhile, from elsewhere on PropSummit, my attention was distracted by the challenge to create another cover, and while featured in that stellar movie, like so many of the paper props in BR, it went relatively unnoticed.

Suspended here, in another scene that NeverWas . . .

Great shot, LOVE it !

(and since PAN AM is featured in both movies, 2001 and BR, I think it makes sense to have this image here !)

A receipt, bearing the victim's name. With new friends, who weren't, a ride that should never have been taken. Then again, perhaps neverwas . . .

From 'The Files' - R13

Inspired by "64".
