|
|
I just realized what the funky looking pointed tip sticking out just above the barrel is on Deckard's gun.
See, what happend was that I had the part from my Sidkit lying in one of my spare parts boxes. Then recently while doing a clean out to sell some old stuff I no longer needed, I found it... then I found another... and another.... wait a minute! I only ever had ONE Sidkit.
Then I realized that lots of these little things had spilled into several of my spare parts boxes and it dawned on me what they were.
Vintage lead airgun pellets. I have a bag of them but can't remember where I got them...
Mine aren't quite as pointed as the one on the blaster but that's definitely what it is, no doubt about it. |

Pics please? I know we had all thought they were a firing pin before this. Very Intriguing.

Well I'm no firearms expert so I'm probably completely wrong!
But look at the resemblance:

It could be a tip from a spray gun. I've dissected a few to sub in for the pin... |

Geez...Robotprops is right; I always thought I had seen that design before, but I couldn't, for the life of me, remember where.
Thanks for re-firing my brain |

Very close indeed. Syd's is based off of Rich Coyle's though, which was made from a firing pin IIRC. I might have to go back and check Rich's build diary on his site. It also continues down into the gun much deeper. Still these would make great pre-made replacements if needed. I want to see pics of these spray nozzles tips too.

The hero would have utilized the firing pin as it was at the end of the bolt. But it's not outlandish to think that Sid would have used a spray nozzle to cast from.
I used one in a garage kit that I was trying to give life to.
You can make it out a bit in this one:

Gun is looking good so far as I can see in the pic. I'm sure, spray guns have different type and models of pins. Worth looking into it for sure! |

Thanks Joberg. I actually did the build a year ago. WIP pics are on the thread.
You're right about the nozzles. There are huge varieties of them large and small and the greeblie in question looks just like one. I might pull the tip out of that blaster if I get time... |
