It looks like their domain name was purchased by another company. It seems all the current attempts to profit from, and maximize exposure to the site had attracted some snipers waiting for their registration to lapse....ooops Embarassed They may not be able to get the old address back without paying a ransom now.

They might have some recourse if that's the case. I know that squatters, and people hoarding brand name sites have been forced to turn them over more recently...If they aren't using them or it's obvious that they just want to profit from forcing the owner of a household name to pay through the nose.

It should be noted that if you are a member of the RPF and Propsummit you should probably change your password if it is the same for both sites. One of the goals of these hijackers may be to use the information gathered from the RPF's user info (as they are now admins, with access to paswords and usernames) to spam any site that they can gain access to.

Yeah I just did a whois lookup and therpf.com is now registered to: Legato LLC as of 01-03-12

thereplicapropforum.com is still registered to: Art Andrews, Movie Prop Sites, LLC since 06-05-2010.

Password changes to commence...Ugh.

I dunno, I'm a little suspicious of www.thereplicapropforum.com based on some of the ads they're showing, like Asian women chat and male dating ads. Not sure which site to believe is real!

I received an email today that states that all our information connected to that old site is compromised.

However, Art has been very specific in explaining that only the domain name was stolen and that the content was safe.

The truth? I suspect the RPF staff don't really know what happened.

Whatever the case I'm considering never logging onto the RPF again.

They have everything up to a few days ago. So if they have the gumption, they could decrypt the passwords. They could go through PM's looking for info. They have all the images. They could capture any passwords being entered now. Welcome to the internet.

The RPF domain didn't lapse. It was paid up till 2020. The hacker accessed godaddy somehow which allowed him to transfer it to himself.

The new location, WWW.THEREPLICAPROPFORUM.COM, is the correct and safe site. However I'd start changing any passwords that were the same and/or linked to the email you used when registering.

It's a pain, I never realized how many sites I was using the same PW and email at. Now they are all different and random.

Art is working through the proper channels to get the domain restored as it was transfered illegally. However since the domain registyr is in Russia, no-one is sure how it will work out. Please forward this info to all you think might be in jeopardy of mistakenly going to the compromised RPF.com site. Even though the old stored passwords are encrypted, they might be able to access any that are directly typed in since they took over.

Also, there's no reason to try and delete any data they have currently as far as PMs, passwords, and emails. Several RPF members including myself have already tried that along with a bit of mischief by posting warnings. They just restored the database to the copy they already had and it restored all the data. And most of us were banned by the hackers.

Yeah, it was stolen. I do think the staff did a good job in dealing with the situation. As best they could/can do. It's a bit of an odd circumstance.

I complimented them in the hacked thread, and meant it. When I found out they used GoDaddy, I understood a lot more. I had to use GoDaddy for a company I worked for a few years ago and it was just a nightmare from word go.

Well, I'm staying clear of the fake site. I do appreciate that some folks are causing trouble over there though.
