and to further derail this thread...there is another screen used bottle that i don't believe has been ID'd...

or did i miss that.

I believe that is the same bottle we are talking about. I think the details are just lost in the screen shot and the label was removed and turned away.

no, take a look, the bottle under discussion, the smirnoff de czar, has lines that go horizontal. the one in the link here has lines that go verticla. completely different bottle! and it has not been id'd.

I disagree. Look at all the screencaps posted on page 2 & 3. The Smirnoff de Czar has vertical ridges just like the ones in the captures. The screencaps just seem to wash out the horizontal ridges. The effect is even worse in the EXTREMELY lo-res (looks like they were taken from a paused VHS tape) caps from the link you're referring to.

Nexus6 is CORRECT.
It wasnt untill seeing the Final Cut on the big screen that I FIRST noticed those Horizontal Lines. If you squint while looking at a good pic of the bottle, those Horizontal Lines disappear and the verticle lines become more prominent...SAME BOTTLE.

I stand corrected. All the photos i've seen clearly show vertical lines only on the bottle in the screen caps, while all the photos of the actual smirnoff de czar botle clearly show horizontal lines.

I went and reviewed all the photos, and its only this photo that shows the horizontal lines on the bottle in the movie.

Thats a bit of an optical illusion! All the shots of the woman holding the bottle...i'd put money on their being no horizontal lines on that bottle. geeze.

No worries pucknell...It just goes to show once more how detailed the movie is.
We all have looked and looked at this movie so many times but each time we do we can find something different or see the same thing in a different way, and now we have an all new cleaned up version to watch and are catching even more new stuff. How cool is that?

It's good to know it went to someone on the board.

Congrats!

Thanks Nick!
I'm looking forward to posting some detailed pics of it when I actually have it in hand.

OK, Smirnoff (Diageo) finally got back to me.

Evidently, they consider their plans regarding de Czar 'proprietary information.'

Thus ends the great Smirnoff adventure.

I looked into that a bit as well Mike shortly after you posted about them renewing their copyright. From what I could gather the copy-right was NOT for the bottle style, it was just for the name: Smirnoff de Czar.

Has anyone got any good detailed shot's of the Tsing-Tao Label with those fire like characters showing?

I've got a few modest ones. They're not from an HD version of the FC, but they might help if nobody else steps forward.

Looks like Arabic to me.

We may be able to narrow it down to the style of the script as well.

Arabic? Really? I guess I was just assuming it was Chinese due to the name...
I'd love to see whatever pics you have Mike. I'll do some digging on those characters as well.

I consider this image to be the most conclusive:

Here are the rest:

I am willing to be proven wrong on the 'Arabic' subject; could be some asian brush script.

Although I have never studied Arabic formally, I see the language on signage in my neighborhood daily. It looks very much like Arabic script with the elegant right to left curving sweeps accompanied by the dual "dots" . I have, however, been studying Mandarin for the past year. I can at least confirm that it is not Chinese Character script.

Actually the script looks more Persian than Arabic. This is also the kind of script used for Afghani and Pakistani inscriptions. Arabic is less accented and a bit plain compared to this script. However, from what I understand one who can read one kind of script like this can pretty much find their way in the other.

A sample of Nasta'liq script (Persian) from the 15-16th Century...I'm seeing similarities here:

And here is Contemporary Farsi (I think):

I'm seeing characters that are the same style but not exactly the same shape. As for the word: Tsing-Tao, any translator I put it into comes back with "Not in Dictionary".

The promised photo's!

An interesting detail at the back lower center of the bottle.

Cleaned up and prepped to be turned into a Tsing-Tao Bottle.

There was actually about a 1/4 teaspoon of Vodka
left in the bottle when I recieved it...I poured it into
the blue shot glass pictured and gave it a taste...
VERY heady stuff!
Let me know if you want more pics at different angles.
I plan to post more after adding the ribbon and Tsing-Tao Label.
