|
|
I just came across this auction (which looks to be heavily inspired by the manual I put together using the manual PDFs ocd made and posted here): http://bit.ly/LiMoIa
Curious, I clicked through to see the seller's other items and found some of Staar's currency, which I remember him explicitly saying shouldn't be sold: http://bit.ly/K06SD0
Just thought I'd share, and that Staar might want to investigate. I don't know where those coins come from. _________________ Good against remotes is one thing. Good against the living? That's something else.

I've also seen this already. There are still plenty of people who do not know that it is here completely free. As the creator of these things I would be very angry.
The coins are also new to me. I've never seen before. _________________ "...ist sie teuer?" "Außerordentlich!" |

Good catch Fangorn81! You should PM Staar (if you haven't done it already)...these were free paper props I'd hate to see someone paying for those. |

Done already. And he's taken care of it.

Cheers fella's and thanks to Fangorn81 for the head's up.
I wish I could say the issue has been resolved (he's selling the manual as well), but eBay haven't acted on my demands to pull the sale as yet and the scum selling the stuff is not responding to PM's.
I'm keeping pressure on eBay but its (as many of you know) a torrid thing to try and get resolved if they avoid the issues…
Kind regards and best

I think the problem is copyright protection is to protect your PROFICs.
IF you not a company selling a product that you have copyrighted and have the means to sue you kind of out of luck, for that is all copyrights and patents give you, the right to sue and a fairly sure (but not 100%) chance of winning.
A lawsuit for copyright infringement always includes that infringer is taking money from the rightful owner of the copyright.
There are no copyright/patent police.
IF something is given away publicly, I believe it then becomes public domain.
My 2 cents worth.

Just my 2cents,
I saw the post too. I wasn't sure on the manual as it looks like the one Staar did.
Or maybe a combination of the two???
One thing I have learned in the 20 plus years in the ad business,...
EVERYTHING is a derivative of something else somehow or other.
Just an fyi I usually put some kind of "tell" in most of what I give away.
Ie micro type 3 point or smaller. Not that it matters, just it verify's whether I did in fact create it.
I use the term "create it" VERY loosely in this case, as EVERY thing BLD related is REALLY a derivative anyway from P.K. Dick's imagination. _________________ "No choice pal,..."

Yes, I agree.
But there is next to the law there is the moral side.
And since I have to say, to do with other people's ideas and efforts to fast money is not ok.
I've already used design ideas from here for my "tinkering" (ammunition box). But that's just for me and not for sale.
To sell such things, I think, at least for reprehensible. _________________ "...ist sie teuer?" "Außerordentlich!" |

|
|
I bumped into this topic myself when asked early-on if I would provide my digital files so that they could be manipulated. While arguably derivative, mine was a reinterpretation with each piece built from scratch, containing original re-illustrations. I found that lack of respect pretty gutsy, but it was followed up by the statement that anything placed here is public domain, as though he had every right to it. That has gone a long way to delay my efforts to make them easily available without some recourse. Those who have nothing invested would be the first to scream, if they truly had anything to offer of their own.
Staar has my total respect, and like many others here, his efforts to provide quality art should be looked upon as a gift of generosity, not simply free fodder to be abused. Unfortunately there are those looking for cheap ways to counter their moral bankruptcy.

I can understand your reluctance to make those available to us Rep13; not one day goes by without me witnessing the pilfering and abuse of someone's generosity for no other purpose than greed |
