THAT is a bummer! Mine is chipped but I'm going to power through it for old time sake during the viewing. Might go retro with the work print!

Yes, questions....

Is the hero really the hero?
Is the villian really the villian?
As a teen I was just starting to understand, and the moment of Roy's transformation gave me chills.
The traditional movie ending of the "villian" vanquished gave way to a different kind of victory and it really resonated with my young mind still trying to figure out the world.

I was 19 and in filmschool when I saw it the first time, but it was a little bit prior to the initial release....I made it to a test screening here in San Diego a few months prior.

......and I hated it.

Though I came to really like it some time after, and viewing it another time or two. Dunno why I ended up liking it, don't really care, but am glad I did because it has become an incredibly influential and prescient bit of cinema overall.

Just finished watching it again for the first time in a couple of years since my wife got me the dvd director's cut when it was released................

and despite having no CGI and still basically being "old school"....

IT STILL STANDS UP.

Today's filmmakers could learn a lot from it, and I think Ridley especially needs to take a good hard look at it again.

I'm 100% with you on that one hauptmann. From every angle, this movie is timeless! You cannot say to me that it smells like the '80s...sorry, cannot buy it. When you look at the special effects, it still stands also on that front. Yes, who's the hero, who's the vilain? Good question indeed, 30 years after Cool
