I keep an eye on the RPF and the threads relating to the blasters.

- imperial screws not metric

- switch cover changed from metal to plastic

OK, I've got a Tomen pro from about a year or two ago......I think it's the one right before the WC version......

so I wonder why they're doing one with a metal clip housing, considering the original was in plastic?

I'm a reproduction historical armourer, so I get trying to be as accurate as possible, but honestly it seems like all these versions just confuses things, when they've already produced an amazingly accurate replica (with the exception of the plastic receiver and barrel because of Japan's laws). Why mess around with it further? Haven't they "gotten there" already?

At the risk of getting blasted again because I make a Blaster model...

As accuracy has been brought up:

I personally believe I make the most accurate model.

For one I already use the correct screws. They are now switching to them.

For another I use the correct screws even were they don't, like, I have my grip frame pin in the correct place, not moved to serve a double job of holding the grip frame and the trigger guard.

Thus my trigger guard is mounted with a real screw not a pin.

Plus my model is made with molds make OFF a real Bulldog and Steyr Receiver and ammo housing and clip.

The only license I have taken is in making a removable ammo clip based on findings of a set of specially made for the film of such clips...for a possible reloading scene.

The real Steyr ammo housing was and is plastic, so a metal housing and or clip is moving farther away from accuracy.

Granted the fit and finish of theirs is better than mine, as per fitting a mass manufactured toy.

I was of like mind..and am still surprised that carbon fiber car parts are very much lighter AND Stronger that steel...

I do wonder it carbon fiber will bend or just shatter??

Stronger is no help if it breaks, bending absorbs force in the bending...

I have not felt safe in a Corvette because of the fiberglass body, and I know it does shatter in impacts...

Modern Vettes are SMC now and crash ratings are pretty good.
Repair costs is a different matter.

I misunderstood, it is the SWITCH COVER being changed from metal to plastic, not the AMMO CLIP HOUSING.

Thanks for clarifying Karl. I fully understand the metal switch plate.

I do, however, still wonder why they do such small runs of many variants (rather than sticking with a couple), considering the money they invest in the development and tooling. They've got an amazingly precise piece on offer, yet their runs are so small (relative to the tooling costs) that is seems like it would be more cost effective to increase their production numbers and bring the per unit price down. They'd still be effectively guaranteed of selling as many as they can produce, and I think a lower retail with better availability would allow them to satisfy many more customers. Right now, with their price at over a grand, few people can invest in a minimally functional prop replica, but if they say tripled their production run number they could drop the price by 30-50% and make many more people happy. They could also suck up the customers that aren't so happy with their Off-world's, etc.

Just some thoughts I've had about this whole thing. I begin to wonder about the business model, when their run sells out nearly instantaneously upon publication, and primarily within the Japanese market, which has such a skewed economy compared to the rest of the world. Producing more would help everyone, including Tomenosuke, it would seem.

I agree. It's an odd business model to say the least. To my way of thinking, blaster makers, by and large, all seem to share this similar trait..

They are pretty smart. Just keep making 'upgrades' and they can sell these things until the cows come home.
