WOW! Thanks Tom. All those details are worth gold to me - and probably all of the guys on this forum Very Happy

Pigs eyes would make perfect sense since they're about the same size as a human's and has a circular pupil aswell. I found this picture which shows the similarity quite well - WARNING NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED!

Buch,
You are welcome.
Looks like eyeball pizza. Yum.

Oh, one more note:
On the backlot street we got permission to use the name
Of a real eyeglass company: LA Eyeworks,
Which is the storefront Batty and Leon enter.

For the liquid, have a look at movie slime (methacyl) or what I've been experimenting with lately on set is ultrasound gel. The gel is quite thick but can be thinned down to any consistency like methacyl but so far I haven't seen it coagulate and dry. I use it when I need water droplets or puddles in a macro shot under hot lights to remain liquid and not evaporate.
Maybe worth an experiment.
Smooth-On has resin tints that might be useful. It's a total experiment, but might be worth a try...
No promises, but if I get time over the weekend, I have what I would need to test it out.
Again, fun project!

Here's just a quick update. Havn't had much time to work on this project due to work (and a million other projects!!!!). I've made the first rough sculpt of the eye tissue... I'm not quite happy with it yet. It would of course require some painting and lacquer... At the moment I'm considering a two component silicone for the liquid in the container. Basically I've reached the conclusion that a non solidifying liquid in a prop on display will be.... messy... in the long run.

Ideas and construktive critisism are very welcome

I think it's too big for a human eye; specially the nerves/muscles parts.
As far as '"look", I think you'd be better off with latex rather than silicone (more "translucent" look Wink )

There's also fake water that you could buy (it's for fake flowers and is a two-part product). Keep us posted

I think you're right, Joberg. The size is off. The amount of tissue is to big and the size of the muscles too. Needless to say, it's a bit difficult to find good reference material of dissected human eyes... perhaps I should talk to some of my doctor friends...?

I found this fake water on ebay and I think this solution is brilliant... Think I'll try to go with this....

I tried doing some test runs of liquid latex, but when it hardens it goes yellowish in colur. But perhaps in thin layers it will have the right translucent effect...

Yep, your friend could you give you some tips on how big are those muscles.
Another thing about fake water: don't let it get dusty; you'll never be able to clean it properly (the dust tends to stick to the surface).

Good luck and I'll keep an eye on this thread for sure Very Happy

this is a cool project Buch. i was thinking perhaps using clear plant gel? its kind of gelatinous, lasts a while, and can either be colored on your own or they sell all kinds of colors ready to go.

its used instead of soil for plants so it should hold up longer than most other alternatives, short of some kind of hardened resin (but then your eyes will be suspended for good).

anyway, just a thought. looking forward to the final - good luck!

Hi photek, thanks for sharing your ideas!!! This project is definetly not dead, it's merely suffering from artistic difficulties and method testing with different materials, vacation time and a million other projects I'm currently working on. Hope I get some time at the end of the month to work on this

Hi Buch,

Can I ask where did you get the plastic container?

Also will you be adding the red text to the outside of the container?

and will you be placing it on a transparent stand like the one in the movie?

the stand looks to be illuminated, could make a good unusual display piece + add in some chop sticks Very Happy

Hi matt,

Yep, I'm planning on placing the red letters outside the box. The idea was to have it made as transparent red stickers and then frosting the entire case afterwards.

You can buy the container here:

http://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_containers/colored_plastic_boxes/220

And yes, I'm also planning to place the container on a larger lit and frosted transparent stand.

If you look closely on the pictures from the movie, you will also, besides the eye, need a sterile vial with some red liquid to place in the container.... Something like this:

I've been lokking at that piece of text over and over again.... The big sign is no problem, it's 永, which means "forever".... But the rest of the text is simply too unclear... If anybody has any suggestions, they would be much apreciated I'm playing with the idea of having the text "Genetic design - one male eye type blue" written in japanese on the box....

Using google translate it would be something like this... I hope...
