CROSSING CULTURES
As others here and elsewhere have noted, there seems an almost-planned connection between the Outland and the Offworld.
One might assume that technologies are similar wherever you are stationed, and certainly the desire to carry images of the ones you care about would be no exception on Io. No doubt O'Niel would carry a photo or two of his wife and son. After all, he kept one above his desk . . .

This is an interesting find. I must admit, that I am confused, though. "Outland" hit theaters in 1981, BR followed one year after.
Interesting to think what could be the connection. Production-wise, I mean.
And where on Earth did you get such a clear screenshot???
Cheers,
Jens |

I think the whole "Alien", "Outland" and "Blade Runner" connection has been accepted by many fans over the years; not only from the same production value/designs/esthetics but also for recurring themes (Big Corp in charge, Replicants/Androids, etc) |

Delayed response, 2133.
The British actress who played Carol O'Niel (Kika Markham) has appeared in several films, but this seems to be her only venture into science fiction. While active in various movies and shows, finding decent images of her can be a challenge, and most are of her in earlier or later, more recent roles. This image began as a screen capture from a totally different movie made around the same time as OUTLAND. But finding a suitable image is tricky, because her hairstyle changed quite often, seldom similar to that she wore as Carol.
