Shocked

This is incredible! Not only does the Aries 1B miniature used in 2001 actually still exist, it's being auctioned!

Shocked

I thought he had it all destroyed. I guess some did make it out of the back room, or someone grabbed it off of the infamous pile in the field i remember seeing the pics of.

The Space Station V miniature was found rotting in a field in the 80s I think. EVERYTHING was thought destroyed, but in the 90s Bowman's red space helmet (and his entire suit, but it had been painted silver for some late lunar pick-up shots) also surfaced.

So with the loss of SSV (the guy who photographed it didn't think to just throw it in his trunk and take it home Crying or Very sad ) the Aries is now the only extant known miniature from 2001.

That I know of.

But if Kubrick gave the Aries to a friend in 1975, as the auction says.... what else lurks in Kubrick's storage unit? Shocked

TFS Karl That's the find of 2015 Cool It seems that the measurements are in line with the pics I have of the building of the hero model (there was only one built to my knowledge).

Here's the pics (mods, if those are not supposed to be posted here...)

Looking at the miniature, it's evident that this is the real deal...here are a few more pics for comparison.

The metal parts from the landing gear are a perfect match for those of the original...and the pics of that Space Station breaks my heart every time I see them Crying or Very sad

And it's great that it's going to be seen.
