Written in the style of a reference book this is by no means the last word on the subject ,it's just for fun.I made some changes to fall more in line with Rick Ross's website.I also had to add messrs Coyle and Steinschneider to the pantheon.
The Model 2009/2019 PK-D
The origins of this weapon now known universally as the "blaster" go back to 2005.The WPO(World Police Organization)put out a requirement to the arms industry for a handweapon with adequate lethality against current and projected androids. The problem of escaped androids manifested itself shortly after the foundation of the first offworld colonies.Police organizations adapted their existing weapons for the task of "retirement"but something purpose built for the task was needed.Five companies submitted design proposals and after an exhaustive three year trial the Steyr(a wholely owned subsidiary of Pflager-Katsumata Corp.) entry was chosen. The Steyr is an idiosyncratic weapon which will better be understood if I describe the ammunition first.Steyr first contracted with Dynamit- Nobel for the ammunition than designed the weapon to utilize it.The D-N round is made in two calibers but aside for dimensions they function alike. The projectile itself looks very much like a shotgun slug on first impression. In fact it is a unique hybrid rocket round. The special composition powder-fuel mixture fills the hollow afterbody of the round closed off by an electrically primed percussion cap at its base. The round is fired by an electrical impulse and once fired it displays it's unique qualities. After being propelled from the smooth bore barrel at a velocity of some 300 meters per second by the initial charge the primary ignites just as the round leaves the barrel. The primary increases the velocity by 400 meters per second within twom meters from the muzzle. The dual propellant and exrtreme acceleration remove the previous objections towards a rocket round, the round is lethal through it's entire envelope. The kinetic energy alone gives the round adequate stopping power. The designers did not stop there however, inside the forebody is an advanced fuse and 0.7 grams of an extremely powerful explosive(0.4 grams in the 10 mm round). The fuse is an advanced type which is guaranteed to detonate the round inside the body cavity of the target. The fuse is discriminating and will not initiate due to light cover such as foliage or light doors, windows or even thin walls.Weights and dimensions are as follows:12 mm 300 grain projectile 2.7 centimeters in length/10 mm 200 grain projectile 2.2 centimeters in lenThe pistol itelf is a chunky handgun weighing in at 1.3 kg unloaded(2 pounds 14 ounces). The slightly more compact 10 mm version weghs in at about 1 kg empty. The most recognizable features are its prominant electrically operated rotary box magazine ahead of the trigger guard, twin triggers and cylindrical gas expansion chamber above the barrel.Frederich Dreyse designed the weapon(Richard Coyle and Phil Steinschneider designed the recoil dampening system),which includes a turnbolt action on the right side.Working the turnbolt exposes the loading aperature. The rocket round need very little barrel legth to function, the weapons length is dictated by the recoil absorption chamber and electronic firing module. The pistol was originally sold with an optional ten round magazine but that model was soon discontinued through lack of sales. The weapon is charger loaded through the loading point with a 5 + 1 ,Five in the magazine, one in the chamber.Since the entire round is fired no extraction is necessary, the next round is chambered by an electrically operated slide which than covers the magazine apperature preventing blast from entering the magazine.Upon the last round being fired the slide remains open ready for reload.Four LED's along the side of the magazine housing and one on the bottom show firing system status and charge level. The lights might seem a tactical hazard in low light conditions but they can be dimmed if necessary and there have been few user complaints. The primary trigger(that closest to the hand)fires the round without activating the fusing system. The secondary trigger sends an arming impulse to the fuse as well as the firing signal.Dreyse judged this method superior to a switch or selector and the users have been well satisfied. The weapon has a simple on/off switch conveniently located near the firers thumb(features can be reversed for left handed use).Maost users prefer to keep the weapon powered up in their holster for immediate use. There is no other safety device as the weapon is quite safe even if dropped,a full pull through o the trigger is needed to fire a round. The original Steyr PK-D M 2009 was manufactured not only by the parent company(both Steyr and PK themselves manufacture versions) but also under license by Smith&Wesson and by Dominguez-Shimata at various offworld factories. The weapon was usually blued or gray with simple black Pachmayr grips. The Model 2019 PK-D magnum is the same weapon but the manufacturers now include many more options as to fit and finish. They offer translucent grips in a variety of colors and the weapon can be polished chrome or virtually anything else desired by the customer.A laser sight in a neat installation on the left of the frame is standard and can be used in the visible or infra red spectrum
Enter the Snub
In addition to the release of the M2019 PK-D magnum Steyr introduced the PK-Snub.Designed by Smith &Wesson designers Rick Ross and Noeland Collins the snub is a compact model.Shorter lighter and handier than the magnum the snub weighs slightly under 2 pounds unloaded(0.9 kg).The snub fires the same ammunition with similar performance to it's big brother and is available in 10 and 12 mm versions(12mm slightly larger and weighing about 1 kg).The magazine capacity is reduced to three +1 and the recoil is somewhat greater due to the snub's reduced size and weight but the penalties are acceptable.PKD snub sales have been brisk since it was first unveiled in November 2018.Inert practice ammunition is available for all versions for use at the range.

Change the WPO reference to a reference to Interpol (perfectly good existing organization) and you have something. Nice rich technical detail, plus a few cute shouts out to regulars. Like it!

Steevy is correct!
In the book, Deckard is supposed to meet a WPO detective who turns out to be. . . well, you know.

I've changed my ideas on the technical aspects since than but it was a reasonable point of departure.I forget which thread I posted updated ideas on.
